  • Multiple 'Draft Info' Questions

    1. What does the 'Position Drill' score mean? Is it 1-100?

    2. How important is 'Endurance'?

    3. Does anyone have a layman's explanation of 'Volatility'?

    4. How important is Height/Weight as it relates to a player's position? It seems there are more 'exceptions' than 'rules' players.

just a real little help here --- the pros can answer much better ---

    1) pretty much a different scale per position

    2) zero endurance usually (from looking at season totals) means 20% plays less than average **** but I'm not really sure how and if performance is worse on the other plays in which you are in the game due to the fatigue

    3) pretty much just what the dictionary says -- (I think) eg a 50 future rated player with 95 % volatility has a huge boom/bust possibility , whereas a 50 future with 0% vol. means pretty much wysiwyg with the condition that the future is always subject to a diceroll

    4) This chart http://fof.sportplanet.gamespy.com/f...ighlight=chart

will really help with most of these (but don't let anyone else see it 8) )

I look at the position drill score by each position.

I think endurance is important, but it's all about relative value. I'll take a guy in the draft with low endurance who has great ratings otherwise if it makes sense where I'm picking (i.e. lower in the 1st round.) Basically, it is just one more piece of information in my evaluation of the whole player.

      3. Volatility has been explained by the developer as the potential to boom/bust. A guy with high volatility is likely going to either be better than predicted or worse than predicted. I use it in combination with other factors to figure out which way I think a guy is going to go once he enters the league.

      4. This is the first version where I feel height/weight are important. There are plenty of exception players, but that is one factor I consider in #3. I also think a guy with a good height/weight ration for the position plays better than a guy who is similarly rated but has a poor height or weight for the position.

Also, looking at height/weight ratio can give you a good idea as to how easily a player might be able to play another spot and even be better there..

For example, a Cornerback who is 6 feet plus and 200 plus pounds will more than likely be a better player at safety than he will be at corner, plus in most cases, he will have a speed and agility bonus of sorts, due to cornerbacks being faster in general.

Same thing goes for "tweener" LBs, where you can get a big outside linebacker with good strength and speed and move him to the middle linebacker spot or in some cases, to DE.

I use this type of info as an added piece when picking defensive players, especially when one position is lacking in talent, but there are players at a similar position who are suited for a switch. Offensively, this is much harder to do, but sometimes FB's and TE's can be relatively interchangeable as well. The more unique positions (FL/SE,RB,T) are much harder to evaluate in this way though.
