  • The State of the League

    Hello, OSFL!

I'm throwing this open to all owners, though I'm particularly interested in hearing from those with experience in other MP leagues. Does anyone have any great ideas of ways in which we could improve the overall quality of the league? We've got a full league of active owners and a solid sim schedule, but now I'm looking at improving some of the bells and whistles around here.

First and foremost, I want to improve the online HTML. At least so it features correct team colors, team logos, etc. I've seen some other league sites that go pretty crazy in terms of player pictures and searchable HTML add-ons that let you view stats online in much the same way you can view them in-game. That would all be cool, but I'm not sure how much work that constitutes and whether there's existing code out there do to all this stuff or whether it would be a custom job. If it's the latter case, that's a sizable amount of work.

I also want to hammer out the awards and betting processes. Right now they're a little spotty in terms of people submitting articles late, getting the lines up every week, updating the betting standings, etc. I know we all lead busy lives so I'm not throwing dirt on anyone, but if some of those tasks have to shift to me so they get done, that's fine. I just want that stuff to run like clockwork the same way the sims run four times a week, every week. The goal of those things should be to increase the immersion and fun factors for the league without adding an excessive amount of work. If it's adding too much work to be fun, that kind of defeats its purpose.

Otherwise, does anyone have any great ideas for things they'd like to see around here? I realize things are a little spartan at this point and I appreciate everyone's patience, but now that we've got a handle on how to run the league I want to make things a little cooler during the first offseason.

Hopefully everyone's enjoying the league in general. If not, feel free to throw any criticisms or concerns my way, either in this topic or via PM. I want to make this thing work because I'm having fun with my team and fun running the league.

I'll be happy to take over the entire G/A thread. Maybe it'd be easier (for me) if we just used the in-game POWER RANKING. That part seems redundant.
Just let me know either way.

I think it's a good idea to use the in-game PRs. Less work.

I concur. Your lines have been really good and the power rankings don't really tell anyone anything that can't figure out for themselves via the in-game power rankings and point differentials. So if you can take over the weekly bet tracking in addition to doing the lines, that would be excellent.

Sure sign of a gambling problem.

Just in case, I wouldn't mind having someone else have a copy of the MSExcel spreadsheet with the formula/explanation of how I get the spread and the over/under.

          Volunteers?

It's not required to bet on the games, right?

I'm very n00bish when it comes to lines and what not, so I haven't been betting at all..

I think we should have a Pro Bowl type thing, best players at a position for each conference and stuff like that. (Goldhammer and Zeiders are locks :))
