  • Another extensions question

When offering an extension to a player, and they have a number in the spot for the current season under the requestiong column, does that mean they want that much MORE money this season? Can I leave that blank? If I'm wrong about what it means, than what does it mean?

also, what if a players contract ends this year and he is asking for more money for this year only and nothing for future years?

Continuing on this topic (sorry Robster no answers) ---

I have attempted to sign my G twice --- with reasonable offers ---- He turned it down twice --- Do I try a third time or does that third attempt risk alienating him (or is he already pO'd?

Robster: #1 Yes, mo money. Why would they want less, unless the bonus + current season salary is more than their current salary? :) You're redoing the entire deal, not just the future years.

Robster: #4 He wants a raise? ;) That's pretty common. I'm not sure what the effect of giving him one does, because I've never bothered to do it. Maybe he gets more loyal. I dunno.

jzicc: What's he asking for and what are you offering?

Thanks Cotton --- he is only showing the current year cap cost (800K approx) ---- I was reneg this year (his last) and extending 2 more years (it was not saying "my client does not want to go to that many years at that pay") -- He is an average starting guard and I was offering 4mill over 3 years (approx 1mil bonus/ 800/1 mil/ 1.2 mill) --- My fear is that my next offer will push the player into po'd refusal

So I have a bunch of players who want a raise for this year, and that's it. Is that common?

I don't think he'd get po'd. I don't recall that happening, but I'm new to FOF2k7 like most of us. I have noticed that a lot of medium level players just want a salary and aren't looking for anything more than that midseason.

It's in their best interest to wait for the off season to make a deal when there's bidding competition. Who knows, if there's a lack of good guards out there, he'll make a good bonus and who knows what else.

I can't re-do my DE Dawkins' deal. I'm trying to lock him in, but he's not buying it either. However, it doesn't matter in his case because he's a rookie and will be a restricted free agent. Nobody can take him unless he's unsigned after the draft. So, I'll just see what he wants after the season and go from there.

If he's only a 'Good' player and not a 'Very Good' or 'Excellent' player, you might be better off waiting, too.

One thing that happens with a fair amount free agents is that if someone fairly mediocre doesn't get an offer in FA, their demands drop with each stage. There's a lot of players who want good deals, but if their unsigned by the end of free agency, they'll often take the minimum. If you think there's going to be a bidding war for your guard, sure, try and sign him up, but if not, who knows? You might find someone better and cheaper in the off season anyway.

I don't know the right answer, though. That's just a perspective from having gone through FOF 2k4 in multiplayer for a few seasons in other leagues so I hope it helps. I'm new to FOF2k7 MP, but I've done a few SP seasons. It's probably a great thing to do, to get a feel for the off-season stages. And it's really as quick as you want to make it. You can do it in literally minutes if you delegate a lot.

I do recall that happening in SP. But I don't think I've ever seen an agent flip me off in MP.

And by 'flip me off', I mean get pissy and turn down an offer just because his client is pissed off at previous offers.
