    To the experienced guys:

IS there a rating that makes a player more apt to commit penalties? Is it tied to the gameplan?? My team takes a ton of penalties!

I did a little research on this (after my last game) and the guys on the FOFC boards seemed to think that coach discipline rating plays a factor in a team's willingness to take penalties.

I have noticed that penalties vary wildly from game to game. Sometimes I'll play a clean game, sometimes I'll have penalties all over the place. But I guess that's what teams that take penalties do....

In a real offseason, in 2004 at least, you can go into training camp and emphasize different focuse points for your team. Discipline, if I remember right, is one of those areas.

I think that penalties are the result of a complex interaction of multiple factors.

I think a Head Coaches' discipline rating is an important factor. I think the quality of the offensive players versus the defensive players at each position is an important factor. For example, an overmatched OL is more likely to draw a holding call when trying to block a superior DL. Similarly, pass interference and defensive holding is more likely when the WR outclasses the DB. I also think that cohesion can sometimes help reduce penalties a bit. Finally, I think that one of the training camp functions (the one that makes players more likely to respond to coaches speeches when you click on it) can also help a bit. However, these are just suppositions on my part, and I don't think there is a definitive study.
