gg Rob. That was one of the most spectacularly offensive displays of offense I've ever seen, from both teams! We probably combined for fewer total yards than Bobby Tubbs 2026 TDs. Small exaggeration
Both QBs were determined to complete just about every pass they threw, for as few yards as possible. Yeah, the #1 and #4 YPA teams in the league and average 4.42 and 5.39, respectively. It was hilariously bad. 257 passing yards. Combined.
Waco got the opening drive in this game. And they marched down the field in 20 plays (+2 penalties!), for 80 yards and a TD, taking 12:18 off the clock! ... and wouldn't score again. They also yielded overall TOP to Utah by over 01:30.
Waco's next nine drives gained 47 yards and spanned just under 16 minutes.
Both teams tried to avoid yardage so bad, there was even a punt return for minus-7 yards. Waco killed themselves with penalties...and Utah fumbled the ball six times. Lost only one. It was fun to watch.
Giang Watch
Our beloved hero of the past five years is having a bad postseason. In two games, Giang has 31 carries for 102 yards, and 3 fumbles. He had 9 in the regular season. He's been thoroughly outplayed, in fact, by backup Ryan Green, who is really looking like something.
Other watches: Bees are going to keep monitoring Randy Boone's sprained ankle. It doesn't seem to be bothering him. Throwing for negative yardage is his favorite pastime. WR Bryan Sidharta is probably healthy enough to return to action for the Bowl. But we IR'd him as soon as he got hurt. D'OH!
Columbus Ex-Bees
Catfish currently featuring LG Bryce Forbes and DE Robbie Kerr as starters. Forbes was on the Catfish roster when they beat the Bees the first time in the bowl; Kerr will have three consecutive rings after this game no matter what.
Utah Ex-Catfish
None, 'cause they SUCK!
Just kidding. We're starting onetime Columbus mainstay and 1st round BELCO WR Zach Coughlin at Flanker.
Bowl Matchup
The Catfish are familiar foes. In 2020, they knocked Randy Boone out of his 32TD/4INT season during the Week 16 game (in which they got blown out), and the suddenly hapless Bees took a first round loss in the playoffs with backup Wendell Longhenry at the helm. In 2023, the Bees made the bowl and took a good ole-fashioned Columbus buttkicking.
Both teams have three bowl wins to their name, and they also own the league's two best bowl streaks. Columbus made every bowl from 2015 through 2018, and the Bees' current streak goes back to 2022.
UTa is now the bowlingest team in the league, with 7 appearances (apparently the early Bees were quite dominant); CLB and YUM are tied for second with five apiece.
This is a really nice matchup. Both teams 16-2. GL Nem.
