  • 2026 Free Agency

Or,..."How crazy are people going to go over McGettigan?"

I think he's the best free-agency QB to hit the market since Britt Meyer, and I don't recall Meyer being quite this good at the time (I think he hit it big later on with volatility).

12th year, 68/68. Still years to go, and probably in the league's top 5 of quarterbacks. Should be more value to the Phils than anybody else because of the enormous cohesion benefit.

I'm expecting lots of big contracts again throughout the league, but here in New Orleans we'll be keeping quiet.

I spent so much on high value contracts last year with the idea being to just draft well and top up the talent. Have to stick to my philosophy and resist the urge to pay big money again

    Regular Season: 45-49-2
    Playoffs: 1-4
    AC South Champions: 2024, 2027, 2029

I'm looking to make a big splash in Brooklyn. We have a ton of cap room but I'm not sure we are going after McGettigan. 12 yrs in and he wants alot of money.

Wow, it's a very bittersweet moment - watching one of our prized possessions, DT Bennie Siragusa, walk in free agency, mostly because we screwed the pooch with contract re-signings at the end of last season and were left without enough money to do Siragusa.

Bennie was one of several talented, ascending players coming off of RFA unclaimed in 2023 whom we targeted and signed for more or less the minimum. After spending a year on IR, Siragusa, who had been creeping anyway, hit the volatility stick paydirt and blossomed into a full-fledged lethal threat at his position.

Now he's pushing 60-rated and taking his services to Lake County.

While we wish him the best there, $10mm/year for the four years of his 8th through 11th seasons was just not something we were prepared to come especially close to offering.

        :'(

In good news, the other FA situation we were privately sweating our sweet balls off over, Utah secured 7th-year fullback Kerry Duran, keeping him likely a lifelong Bee. A 6th round pick of ours in 2020, Duran was the most athletic 5'9-245lb fullback we've ever seen. His 6.96 agility drill still puts him regularly in top 5% of all wide receivers in any given draft class.

Not to mention, Duran's long tenure here and outstanding special teams ability have been invaluable to us. Extremely glad that he turned down more money from Dakota to stay loyal to the Bees. Also turned down Columbus's shitty little offer, but hey, that's expected

Yeah, I'm treating this as a blessing in disguise (maybe). It's not actually, but on the other hand, I do save myself $7 mm in each of the next three seasons. That's a lot of vacated room.

Nobody wants to play for the shitty Totems anymore! We'll have to get our ex-Bees the way we used to: by trading for them.

thats why i hate the renegotiation rule that 60 mil contract will end up costing about half if that

Except that's going to take a HUGE amount of bonus to land him with all these bidders. That's guaranteed money/cap hit.

This FA period is really making me miss cap-crunch leagues. 'tis silly.

yeah but you only "suffer" for the 1 year after you do the renegotiation its over

No, if you offer say, 2/2/2 with a 30 million bonus, you are on the hook for 10/10/10 + whatever else, period. The bonus does not get renegotiated.

Yeah, whoever wins these crazy contracts...they're going to suffer. In my estimation :P
