Oh man, I lost all but one of my leaders to retirement. Damn.

Lost a ton to retirement - McGee, Rogers, Schaplowsky, Bullock, Sponable.

But it's a good thing, out on their own terms. Enjoy those rings, fellas.

Oh, and can we change the title of the thread to 'New Season File' or something? I almost didn't come here (again), figuring it was an auto-post of the file from after the Bowl, but before the new season.

All my old players loved playing on a losing team. They're all coming back.

Well both my starting guards retired. So much for my rebuilding plan, time for Plan B.

Oh, retirements are here, that's right...

Utah bids farewell to starting tackle Bruce Roberts, who anchored one side of the line or other for each of the past three bowl runs. Just won't be the same without ya, Bruce.

Around the league, a pretty big announcement for Rico Whalen, this season's LEGEND OF THE GAME. Big changing of the guard coming up for them Bayhawks, yeah?

Lost 2 to retirement, so most of the team is still intact, just have a couple of RFA's to resign, and hopefully lock up my 11yr vet 31/31 WR Dudley, as he is the leader of the receiving corp, but if I can't get him back, I'm not to worried as the new guy doesn't have any conflicts with the rest of the receiving corp.

Nice, put 2 guys in the hall of fame this season. Didn't think Dean Boshier would make it, but did think he was borderline good enough. Glad to see him there, and Tito Roby was a great DT for us for a lot of years.

Sad to see DT Norbert Shaffer retire.

He was still producing at a good rate and could easily have played for another year or two.

Only three retirements, two of whom were no longer starters but remained key role players.

FB Tom Church was a 4 time All-Pro who was a key contributor to our team both on offense and on special teams. He was also something of a good luck charm, in the 12 seasons he was on our team we never failed to make the playoffs.

TE Vernon Ogden was a disappointment as a first round pick, it seemed I was always looking to sign or draft someone to start ahead of him. Still he was a mentor with great chemistry and special teams bars. The loss of both Church and Ogden will be a serious blow to our special teams unit for 2025.

WR James "Metapod" Harden was signed off the street for peanuts after Paul Marchion retired two years ago. I wasn't expecting much out of a 27/27 rated Utah cast-off, but Metapod proved to be our most efficient receiver over the last two seasons averaging 9.33 yards per target. Behold the power of the Big-Play Receiving bar.

Looking around the league I see couple other former Cutters who retired as well. ILB Todd Hameleers was one of the last members of our magical 2012 draft class to still playing (C Jerome Huntley is the only one left now). CB Leonard Johnson was a great underdog story. A 5'7" 7th round pick who earned a full time starting job in his second year and lead the team with 7 picks in his last year as a starter. Unfortunately like so many of these late round boom picks I've seen, he burned out just as fast as he appeared.

Elsewhere in the league, not only did Rico Whalen hang 'em up, but so did Roy Parrish and Eddie Castillo. Throw in Desmond Kaplan (a #9 overall pick from way back in 2007) and that's a lot of big QB shoes for the league to be filling this year.

Dear old Metapod had the most fantastic WR season ever seen in Utah, when he semi-won a starting job en route to 40 some catches at over 11 ypt. After his show in Camden, Memphis has to be wondering what may have been had they given him a chance!

Like Subramanian, another one of those older players who appear to decline but still got it. The kind I part with too much.

A lot of young QBs are going to be stepping into those shoes, as we see Covington, DeJesus, Oglethorpe, and Shedleski come into their own.

We had 1 surprise retirement. Year 4 of trying to get our turf fixed. Damn voters are so broke in Denver they won't support anything.
