I have a question on player development for some of the more experienced guys.

I have several situations where I have a 30/60 player and a 40/40 at the same position. In every case, the AI picked the player with the higher potential even though his current rating is lower. Am I better off starting the guy with the higher current rating, or will this stunt the development of the higher potential guy?

The AI is quite robust. It changes recommended starters based on the stage of the season. It will recommend the higher-potential young guys during the preseason, and vets in the regular season. That being said, I'd start a 30/60 guy over a 40/40 in the regular season in almost every situation. Now, if it were 25/60 vs. 45/45, I'd probably go 25/60 preseason, 45/45 regular season.

The other factor to consider is rust. If your 40/40 guy is gonna start in the regular season, make sure he gets some playing time in the preseason to shake off the rust.

I thought OOTP was deep, but this game makes OOTP look like Atari Baseball.

when looking at ratings, does the green portion of the bar equate to "potential"?

It is very deep. But a lot more unrefined than OOTP. But it's football so it should be rougher around the edges.
