  • Feeling real stupid -- noob here --- help --what do I do ?

    Hi--

    1) Can't really see what to do now --- Is Pittsburgh still available? How do I "claim" a team ?
    2) Just bought FOF --- what am I (specifically -- hold my hand) going to have to do each week (detailed as possible)?
    3) jumped the gun on #2 -- what do I have to do prior to the draft (as detailed as possible)

Sorry to be a pain ----

We are using fake teams / players. But if you look at the sticky on the top of the page, there is a list of current teams/ cities taken. Also, look at the top of the page and click on 'Draft Strategy" . That will explain what needs to be done before the draft. It's pretty in depth too.

dude, you're not alone. i have the game, started it, looked dumbfounded, and turned the game off. i think i'll have to learn on the fly.

however, i can answer question #1. since this is a fictional league, you decide where you team is located, what it'll be called, and your logo. just take a look at the list of teams already established, and try not to pick a team in an area that's too close to a pre-existing one.

#1 and #3 are already answered. For #2, you are going to need to devise a gameplan or several gameplans before the season starts. You can use the same gameplan each week, but the most successful MP GM's will modify gameplans or use the save and load gameplan options to change their gameplans to prey on opponent's weaknesses. The gameplans allow you to dictate settings for a variety of situations and are all found in the same window as the depth chart. The gameplans are elegant yet very detailed. You can specify many different things such as pass/run percentage, directions of runs, amount of finesse runs, length of passes, etc.

I assume I can wait until after the draft for a gameplan --- ? --- Can't exactly formulate strategy until I see the team composition -- correct?

Also, what are the exact mechanics of each week --- we send our game plan via email to a commissioner? or what ? He compiles and publishes the results ---

To add on a little to gameplans. You can somewhat start on it now, but I'll really get involved after the draft when I know what type of team I end up. So I plan accordingly to the strengths and weakness of my team.

I would have some rough idea of what type of gameplan you might want to run before you set your preference draft sliders, but yes, the meat and potatoes of gameplanning will come after the draft. Some leagues have an automated website that accepts exports for the game. Other leagues have members send their files to the commish via email.

To clarify my response and answer your questions more directly. Each week, in the game, you will set your gameplans (which can be saved and loaded), your depth charts, etc. You'll then hit a button whose exact label is escaping me, but it is effectively a create export button. That will create a file within the FOF 2007 directory and in a subdirectory labeled "export." You'll send that created file to the commish via whatever mechanism that the commish decides (email, website upload, etc.)

Once the commish gets all of the exports (or at the designated time) he imports all of the files into the game on his computer. He then hits the simulate week button and then produces files for each of us to download into our "league" directory within FOF 2007's main directory. That will enable us to each see the results within our game and begin the cycle all over for the next week.

We'll be able to upload through the website. I just added this link to the frontpage. Passwords will be sent via email or pm.

                      Basic Gameplanning tips

Well, offensively, look at what your QB can do. If he knows 8 basic plays, set your basic offensive play calling to those 8 plays, then skew them according to his style of play. If your QB has good timing, good at the short to medium passing game, then don't have him go out throwing hail mary's or long bombs. Set the passing stats to reflect his strengths.

Running backs: I've found that a good running backs most important areas are hands, does he fumble, and hole recognition. He can be as fast as lightning, but if he can't see where to run, he's useless.

Offensive Linemen are a premium, especially LT. In my opinion, a OL without any endurance is useless.

Defensively, the secondary is the best area to start with. If your CB's and Safetys are strong playing zone, but weak in man or bump n run, then you'll have to play a lot of zone. 4 deep zone will keep the receivers in front of you and you won't get burned. 2 deep zone pulls the CB's up to help with run support.

we'll continue class soon. I'm sure Cotton and Skydog can add and embelish more since both are more experienced than I.

That, and I don't want to give away too many secrets. 8)
