When the '92 season kicked off in the minors those in the Muckdogs front offices didn't have a lot of hope for much success. With recent trades that have nearly depleted their minors of future talent the owner of the franchise was counting on his superb coaches and a lot of heart to get the best out of his feeder teams. In the end he, along with most of the league, were pleasantly surprised by the results. For not only did all three minor league teams boast winning records, but AAA Houston and AA Eagle River both won their 2nd straight championship in their respective leagues.
Pitchers of the Year
SP Curt Tanner
Tanner was brought up briefly to the BLB and struggled mightily before being sent back down. Not getting too down on himself he re-focused and ended the year at 12-4 with a 2.60 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 79 K's, and 25 BB's in 124.2 IP. A former top pick by the Guides the Batavia coaching staff will be focusing on his control in hopes of getting him back to the BLB next season.
CL Eldon Howard
Howard was an undrafted FA that was signed by Syracuse before being let go and signed by Batavia in '88. He only pitched 13 innings for Hondo before an arm injury forced him out the remainder of the season. Working hard he slowly climbed the ladder and was selected to the '91 and '92 AA All-Star games before being called up to AAA. In 25 games there he recorded 14 saves with a 1.53 ERA and 1.30 WHIP and also got the save in the AAA championship game.
Hitters of the Year
RF Barney Kenner
Kenner was the 1st round pick of Batavia in '91 straight out of high school and did very well his 1st season by hitting .360/.428/.459. When he started out on the same tear in '92 he was promoted to AA and finished the year by hitting .326/.380/.410. He also capped off his season by knocking in the only run in Eagle River's 1-0 championship game win over Auburn. At only 20 years old he has a lot of time to mature and the coaches are hopeful for future success.
LF Duane Miller
Miller was a 3rd round pick by Hyundai in '90 but was released in '91. A week later he was signed by Batavia in hopes their hitting coach could fix a flaw in his swing but he finished the season out by hitting .215/.333/.276. Given another off season Miller finally got his act together and hit .304/.379/.399 with 4 HR's and 35 RBI's. At 23 year's old the organization is hoping for another successful off season in hopes they can move him to AA by the start of next season.
