  • Alltime Bust Years

Ok maybe I'm just a bit bored, but I was looking at some draft history and was wondering if any team had a terrible draft year they would rather soon forget?

For Pawtucket let me introduce to you the class of 1985:

    Draft Position

1st/Pck 5- P Pepe Rodrguez. Wow all I can say. Never a top 100 prospect, 13 month shoulder injury in 86 might have hampered him. Had one horrible rookie season of 3-14 10.47 ERA in 1989 and was out of baseball in 1991. Can't bomb any worse than this guy.UNEMPLOYED

2nd/Pck 15 - P Lonnie Cook. Not a bomb yet at 24 in AAA, but again never a top 100 prospect. Could perhaps make someday at a RP, but hopes are waning for this prospect.

3rd/Pck 1- 1B Ivn Castaneda. 7 month injury right out of the gate. Played in A until 1988 before finally released. Caught on with Baltimore where he got no higher than AA before being released in 1991.UNEMPLOYED

5th/Pck 2- P Luis Antonio Vsquez. Lefty starter which when I took over had some future hope in this prospect. Has struggled at the higher levels and only development seems to be in his control. Sadly he's the best prospect from this class and odds are slim he see's the majors.

7th/Pck 2- 2B Tad Jones. Besides playing multi positions, this guy was one lazy ass. Never averaged past .267 at any level. Briefly picked up early this season, but released.UNEMPLOYED

8th/Pck 2 - P Wu-shiun Pei. The dreamweaver actually played 3 seasons in the majors progressively getting worse. Career 6.69 3saves and VORP -24.5. Currently on Virginia AAA teaching the young prospects on how not to pitch!

9th/Pck 2 - 2B Ral Lauriano. Played one A season for Pawtucket when he was released and picked up by Davenport. His past 6 of 7 seaons has been on the AA team assumed to be washing the players jocks?

    The Total

Major league seasons combined : 4

Top 100 prospect ratings from OSA : 0

    Unemployment rate: 3 or 43%

1985 was YUK! Any team have this type of draft year??????

The funny part was I was originally looking for the best draft class when I stumbled upon 85. First I was horrifed, then decided to post worst class instead while laughing.

Btw- How on earth was P Eros Cook picked off of waivers by Batavia in 1985 the ripe old age of 18???? I'm not getting why he was on waivers so early in his career??????

1985 was a very bad year

When I saw the headline, I assumed it was an article about Greg Josey's career.

Wow, just checked back on this. Turns out the OFFiCiAL VORP for this class was -72!!!!!!!!!

Most of these guys were pitchers. No wonder we were making wild trades for pitching in the 90's.

Worst class ever unless anyone can outperform this? Add insult to injury this was the trade down draft resulted in Ironfist NOT in Pawtucket. Now he's blacklisted.

Whatever year we took Trejo first is the year I want to burn down.

edit: I think it was 1984. Draft history is messed up, but that wasn't that awful. We did have Al-Sadat.

            Now 1990 was terrible.
