Opening Day Lineup:
Last year it took this team til August to set a lineup that felt comfortable. A few changes this year, but the core concept remains the same:
Basic Lineup
1) RF-Helmrich Found a nice niche at the leadoff spot late season
2) DH-Latham Slow, but does the job here. Will bat #7 versus lefties.
3) 1B-Chamissa Moved from n#4 spot to protect Victor
4) 3B-V. Gonzal 1990 Stout Slugger takes the clean-up role
5) C-H. Gonzal Well protected by Opio, could see the #4 spot with righties
6) RF-Opio Came to Pawtucket in trade dealine deal. Keeps #6 spot
7) 2B-Zamora Will see the n#2 against lefties. High average potiental.
8) LF- Garica/Turcotte **
9) SS- Joy/Rogers Again **
#8 , #9 spot more our defensive players so will go by lefty/ righty matchups. Be interesting so see how Joy performs with little pressure to produce with what should be a difficult lineup to pitch against.
Defense: Best we've had since arriving here. Maybe Pawtuckets best defense ever. Should really help the groundball % heavy pitching staff.
Players who get the occasional call:
SS- Cole
OF- Perez
OF- Diaz
Young players who might taste some big league play:
1B/2B? - Chatfield
OF - Calhoun
Summary: Barring any major injuries, team ownership feels pretty good with this group. Enjoy pitching to them.
