After Bayer's disastrous 1989 All-Star game and then subsequent 2nd half meltdown many wondered if he would regain his old form. The Muckdogs fans didn't have long to wait to find out. By the end of May '90 those questions had already been answered as Bayer had 11 saves and a 0.82 ERA during the month. From there he had his ups and down but finished the season with a 6-4 record, 39 saves, 1.63 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 104 strikeouts. At only 5'10", 190 lbs many people expect a bigger player when they meet him in person, but his strong mechanics combined with a great work ethic allow him to keep striking out batters with his 100 MPH fastball or devastating slider. The 26 year old has now won the IL Last Call three times to go along with his three All-Star appearances and will hopefully give Batavia something to cheer about for years to come.
