You love me....you really....love me....I was actually pretty surprised by the votes. I mean, yeah, I had the most wins, but you can make that case for a lot of different GMs/teams. After missing the playoffs in '89 for the first time since '82, I was pretty desperate to get back to the post-season. I didn't have the budget room to make any big Free-Agent splashes but I made a few moves that paid big dividends in the end. Trading for pitchers Bill Faircloth and Tommy Lang of Baltimore allowed me to commit to a six-man rotation. Moving P.J. Brooks from middle relief to the rotation saved his season. The call-up of ROY Tyrone Abbott. Signing super utility man Clement Montgomery to a league minimum contract providing defensive relief and pinch running. Sending Dave Robbins packing. Trading for Carolina's Britt Bovey. Etc.

This is my second time winning the award. Last time I think I had a 25+ win improvement. This time, I'm not sure what I did that made my year standout above the rest, but I do appreciate the votes.

I personally voted for Spectre. Without a lot of hype the Storm ended up with the best record in the DL. A blend of youngsters and seasons veterans, Mississippi had a very special season. Unfortunately, like Washington, both fell short in the playoffs.

Third place goes to Mr. Zabel. The Philly Freedom set a team record in wins in 1990. Also unfortunate for Brad, the Freedom lost their best player (Scott) to injury right before the playoffs and they lost to the Wild Card Colonials in five games. Still a hell of a year for Philly.

Carlos, Funclown and Jistic, were the only other GMs to receive first-place votes.

Editor's note: I did not vote myself.

If I got 10% bonus money for every article where someone took my format, I'd never have to write another one.
