Carlton has only been a starter for the past three seasons. This is his second Pale Ale, however. The closer turned ace has really taken the league by storm these past three years. It is no coincidence that the pitcher who goes 52-10 over that span, plays for the team with the best record over those three years as well. The 35-year-old Carlton shows no signs of slowing and will actually be in a contract year for '91. If that's not enough motivation, maybe the $18,500,000 salary should be.

The second-place vote getter is California's ace, Conan "Checkmate" Wilkerson. For those that haven't figured it out yet, this kid is pretty special. He already has 915 career strikeouts in his first four seasons. This season the 25-year-old went 18-7 on a (near) .500 ballclub. He also pitched his first complete game shutout and appeared in his 3rd All-Star game.

Rounding out the top three is Philadelphia's Doug "Light" Miles. He, like Wilkerson, received four first place votes. The 22-year-old, in this his second year at the BLB level, was also, like Carlton and Wilkerson, an All-Star for the IL. A former 4th round pick, Miles looks to be the ace of the Freedom staff for a long, long while.
