After having a look at the Muckdogs pitching it's time to turn our attention to the offense. Last season Batavia had a .267 batting average, their highest in team history. With a group of young players who have gotten better, they are hoping to equal or even better than in 1990.
C Tauro Hidrogo - This guy was literally one click away from being cut in early '89 but instead got the chance to start when C Pat Mays went down in the preseason. He played well and never saw the bench again. Over the season he hit .285/.348/.399 and will start again this year.
1B Raul De Jesus - He started out slow in '89 but finished on a tear to end the year hitting .300/.378/.465. He also found some late pop in his bat. If he puts it all together watch out.
2B Jack Dynes - Batavia's 2nd FA signee of the off-season is solid with the bat but more importantly stellar with the glove. He can play 2nd, 3rd, and SS flawlessly and the Muckdogs are excited to have him.
SS Daryl Pollard - A Rule 5 pickup in '88 he improved his batting average by 41 points in '89 to finish the year hitting .275/.313/.393. He's nothing special at the plate but his defense keeps him in the lineup.
3B Jermaine Ednams - The '89 Import League "Refreshing New Brew" moves back to 3B this season with the addition of Dynes. Last season he hit .329/.386/.455 with 13 HR's, 72 RBI's, and 30 SB's. Batavia is excited to have him and he gives the IF a great young 1-2 punch when combined with De Jesus.
LF Shaw Barnes - An all or nothing hitter Barnes is great at two things...hitting HR's and striking out. Last year his 19 HR's led the Muckdogs and he hopes to build on that number this year.
CF John Fehilly - In '88 he hit .257/.299/.350 and played himself out of the starting role. In '89 he came in due to injuries and hit .305/.362/.430. He's 28, a star in the field, and in his contract year...can he keep playing at that level?
RF Jong-min Park - A lot like Barnes he was called up late last year and he hit 5 HR's in 51 at bats. He also struck out 14 times as well. He will probably only play against LHP and will platoon this position with either Wally Ross or Ruben Marin.
