The Old Major
Our leadership award. (Think Orwell's "Animal Farm"...)
SP Jerome Middlebrooks
Jerome was acquired via Free Agency this season, primarily because of his experience and leadership skills. Our young pitchers, Cris Gallegos, Manny Ramirez and Yushiro Uchida thrived under his tutelage. He also helped to instill confidence in a couple of young hitters: Curt Knight and Hector Gonzalez.
The Piglet
This little piggy had a good first year in the bigs. No pooh.
1B Curt Knight
He split time with Tom Schmitz for most of the season. (By the way, Schmitz also deserves some kind of award for over-achieving...again.) But management tossed him the keys to the car in September and he handled the starting role responsibly. Our scout says he has a long and prosperous career ahead of him. I can hear the OOTP gods now...In a pig's eye!
The StyMaster
This pig is master of his domain...The pitcher's mound.
Could it be anyone other than... SP Donato Guardamagni
Yes, Gervasio Dealba had a great season too. In fact, he carried the rotation in April and May. But when the push for the post-season was on, Guardamagni led the way. Despite losing game 7 to Maine in the DL Championship, he remains the undisputed King of the Hill in Los Lunas.
The Babe
Given to the team's leading slugger. So which "Babe" is the real inspiration behind this award?
The first ever Babe goes to... 2B Hector Gonzalez
Although guys like Ken Cahill and Donato Guardamagni are still the face of this franchise, Hector's bat was the biggest difference maker for the Furry Pigs this season. He led the team in 2B, HR, XBH and slugging. He also tied for the team lead in 3B. "That'll do, pig. That'll do."
