Drafted in the 2nd round of the '85 draft Bayer was called up to Batavia in '86 and hasn't looked back. Last year, after starting the year in middle relief, he was moved to closer and recorded 35 saves, a 1.04 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. He was chosen to his 1st All-Star game and at the end of the year took home his first IL Last Call Relief award.

In 1988 expectations were just as high and he came through again. Constantly called upon to shut down opponents he did just that and posted 36 saves out of Batavia's 75 wins this season. When the yearly end of season awards rolled around he was once again selected the IL Last Call Relief.

"This is a huge honor," the 24 year old said at the Muckdogs end of season banquet earlier this week. "The BLB has some great closers and to be selected Last Call for the second straight year is a dream come true. I'm grateful for the opportunity Batavia gave me when I was drafted and I love playing in front of these fans."

As you build your team, it's good to know you have a guy that will impede any opposing team's attempt to ruin a good game in the last inning.

I hope this guy ends up being a life-long Muckdog.
