    • Still way down at #16.

Good news is Kirkpatrick is holding steady at #10. As I mentioned in the other thread, he threw a no-hitter in his last start. Kid's a beast.

              • Because this draft class appeared to be a little weak on the surface, I don't expect a ton of flux to the list. Obviously the expansion teams should move up because they'll actually have prospects for the first time. All of my Top 100 guys are actually Top 50, so even with the class, I'm guessing they all still stay Top 100 + I should add at least 1 or 2 more.

                I imagine we'll remain Top 5

                  • I don't think anyone will knock Victor Rodriguez off the top of the list due to the changes in the age variables. The yougest guys now in the draft are 18, Rodriguez is only 19 now and in AAA. All the 16 year olds that went in before have a huge head start on the guys that are getting drafted now.

This draft was not one of our top heavy drafts we've had in the past either. The top 3 picks this year would have been the 5-8 picks in the first round in years past.

                    • Post draft, the Washington Bats are #4 in all the BLB. None of my draft picks break the top 100 list, which isn't surprising to me, as I did have the last pick in round one. What is surprising to me, is that none of my picks even cracked my organizations top 10 list. Granted, two of my first three selections were RPs, who aren't highly regarded by BA, I was still surprised. (But of the top 100 prospects, only two are RPs) I did however have the Minor League System Report tell me that 2nd round pick, MR Cristian Ramirez is "Ready For Double A", and my scouts have him currently rated 3-3-5. I have never started a draft pick above Single-A, but Ramirez gets the head start.

Of the 1984 Draft Class, the following broke the top 100:

                      #20 - RF Bao-qing Yang (Hartford 7th overall)
#28 - SP Arlen Spencer (Virginia 5th overall)
#29 - SP Al Smoot (Morgantown 2nd overall)
                      #26 - C Manny Cisneros (California 4th overall)
                      #30 - C Héctor González (Pawtucket 3rd overall)
#39 - SP Kris Clark (Indy 9th overall)
#41 - SP Jed Lewis (Carolina 19th overall)
                      #44 - 3B Yoshinaka Toiguchi (Windy City 8th overall)
                      #58 - C Don Thompson (Baltimore 2nd round, 36th overall)
#63 - RF Raúl Esquivel (Windy City 18th overall)
#64 - SP Nakazo 'Chuckwagon' Sasaki (Batavia 1st overall)
#66 - SP Sammy Homer (Mississippi 6th overall)
#71 - LF Joe Saxton (Baltimore 13th overall)
#73 - SS Geoff Scott (Philly 17th overall)
#80 - CF Iván Montés (Maine Sandwich pick...mmm sandwich pick....)
                      #84 - C Pete Davenport (Batavia 4th round, 74th overall)
                      #94 - 2B Héctor González (Los Lunas 14th overall)

As of today, I would have to say the "winners" are Windy City, Batavia, Baltimore, Carolina and Hartford. The Playboys landed two of the top 10 players in the entire draft. The Muckdogs had two picks make the top 100 list, one being a 4th round pick. The Bulldogs also had two picks make the list, including the 9th best player taken in the middle of round two. The Tobs landed the 7th best player with the 19th overall selection. And the Whalers landed the best overall player with the 7th selection.

Of the teams with first round picks, who didn't make the list are:

CL Paul Kwayera (Dallas 10th overall) - Did not make ORG top 10*
SP Tino Suarez (Maine 11th overall) - #6 on the ORG top 10
SP Hidehira Matsui (Wilmington 12th overall) - Did not make ORG top 10
LF Florian Toselli (Virginia 15th overall) - Did not make ORG top 10
3B Hector Lopez (Wilmington 16th overall) - #6 on the ORG top 10
1B Luwen Knegt (Wilmington 20th overall) - #7 on the ORG top 10
MR George Birley (Sin City 21st overall) - Did not make ORG top 10*
3B Kip Carr (Wilmington 22nd overall) - Did not make ORG top 10
SP Anibal Soto (Pittsburgh 23rd overall) - Did not make ORG top 10
MR Chad Williams (Washington 24th overall) - Did not make ORG top 10*

The asterisk notes those players are RPs. What jumps out right away, is that the Wilmington Wildcats' don't have a single player break the top 100, with four first round picks. Also, only two of the four cracked the organization's top 10 list. But, the two did debut at #6 and #7, while #5 in the organization is listed as the #89th best prospect, so it is possible that Lopez and Knegt are rated in the #101-#150 range.

Take all of this with a grain of salt though. Thursday brings a brand new list of Top Prospects. We have all seen players go from nowhere on the list to top 50 in one sim, without a development report. And we have all seen the opposite. But as of today, this is what we see.

                        • Good job, Smear.

I'm calling my team a winner simply because I really felt uneasy about the Arlen Spencer pick. I felt like he wasn't sexy, but could end up in the mold of those guys out in Maine who don't overpower you... but they dominate you nontheless.

It's been 5 years coming, but I'm taking the fact that my AA & A teams are both in first place without loading them with 30 year olds is finally starting to look like a good sign. I'm not excited about moving talent around this sim to make room for the newbies. I'm fearful of bumping players too soon or cutting players who haven't had their fair shot. Guess that's baseball though.

                          • I thought the draft class was pretty weak overall, but I didn't think it would be this weak. No guys even cracking the top 20?

I'm not very surprised with the 2 catchers drafted in the 2nd round being Top 100 prospects. I had them as top talent in the draft and was surprised when they started falling. If I hadn't drafted a catcher in the 1st round i would have grabbed one of them with my pick in the 2nd.

                            • OOTP loves the Catchers.

Look at the BLB... Lumar, Stiver, Fortin... guys like these have been among the top players in the entire league for years.

I was shocked to not see Florian Toselli on the top 100 list. I thought you landed one of the biggest steals of the 1st round....ahhh, scouts.
