California has had a huge surge in the prospect area lately.

We're up to #7

8 - Wilkerson - SP (AA)
24 - Good - 2B (AA)
43 - Austin - C (A)
76 - Race - SP (A)
91 - Phillips - 1B/C (A)

I love that my top two prospects are in AA. Wilkerson seems to be progressing nicely and I could see a September 1987 call up for him.

Race is who I'm proudest of. I traded for him from Los Lunas for Joe Iliquez after the dreaded Philly/Cali deal. My scout has been in love with Race from the beginning giving him a 6-6-6 potential. Only problem was the game and some GM's weren't too high on him. Now my scout has him at 6-6-7 potential and the game is finally starting to come around on him. I know my scout overvalues talent but I wouldn't be surprised to eventually get Race to the bigs at 5-5-5.

Iliquez was a bust in Los Lunas, but he's holding his own in Maine this season. My Scout still doesn't care much for Race. But since I only have a couple of decent starters in my farm system, I'm beginning to think my scout doesn't know jack-s**t about pitching.

My scout was (and still is) higher on Lozano. But at this point, I'm happy with the trade for Gibson. "Flex" is surviving as a starter (3.89 ERA, 6 innings per start). Thanks again, Patrick.

Good to see Denver is still in the Top 5. That's what I'm trying to build there.

I have a very bittersweet relationship with my Farm System. Obviously, I'm very happy that we are #1. I'm very happy that all of my Top Prospects are still in the minors marinating and not being forced into duty too early (as use to be the case). But, at the same time, I feel like I really have a feast or famine farm. I think my top 6-8 are going to be pretty good, but after that I really have a collection of garbage. All in all, can't complain, but we'll see.

#9 - Yoritoki Maeda (3B) - Spent all of '86 at AAA where he will likely also play in '87. Still only 19, should be a September '87 call-up and an everyday player in '88.

#15 - Pancho 'Ironfist' Herrera (SP) - Started in A in '86 and finished in AA. Actually pitched better in AA then he did in A-ball. Scouts think he's ready for AAA, but he'll likely start '87 in AA (at least a few starts) unless he takes a sizable ratings boost in the off-season. Could move quickly in '87 to AAA and will likely make the rotation in '88.

#16 - Artie Rhodes (OF) - Love Artie Rhodes and he's a major need position for us! Was going to be a September call till an injury knocked him out earlier this month. He'll go to Spring Training in '87 with the Colonials and may be the guy that pushes O'Hegarty out of the lead-off spot.

#32 - Héctor Chávez (2B) - Still a baby (18). Didn't even scratch the surface at A ball yet.

#36 - Jerry Morgan (SP) - 2nd Round pick in '84. Did not expect him to be the guy to develop (Arlen Spencer was the 1st Round bust), but has quietly blossomed this season into a high K, low WHIP guy. He'll be a nice right-handed starter to have in the future since we've been mostly grooming lefties. At 20, he's probably an '88 call-up at the earliest.

#75 - Orinosuke Takahashi (1B) - Love, love, love this guy! When he's fully developed, I think he can be my Dani Alvarez. Good chance he'll complete the 1988 Opening Day infield of Poling, O'Hegarty, Maeda and Takahashi. Team Japan should be watching this kid closely!

Moved up to #3 after my latest trade. I hate how it only lets you have 5 prospects on the list. Pete Hudder and Zak Etheridge got knocked off because I acquired 2 prospects ranked higher than them.

There's a good chance #7 overall prospect Hector Hernandez could see time in the BLB this year. Don McGuire and Pete Hudder will likely make the jump as well.

Does anybody understand how the points are calculated?

My opinion is that the system does award points for players not in a team's top 5 but who are in the BA top 100, but I don't know for sure. It seems to me that I would be more than 4 points behind Virginia except that I have 3 additional players in the top 100.
