We're onto May. Carolina, California and New York go 5-1, as the Tobs take over the Power Rankings and the Cyclones go from starting the season 0-7 to a nice respectable 14-12 now. Other top weeks were Montreal, Philly, and Windy City who all went 5-2. On the flip side LAD went 1-6, while Phoenix, Batavia, Maine, Denver, and New Orleans all went 1-5. Sometimes you're the spider, sometimes you're the snail.

Performance of the Week

C Randy Wassell - The 26 year old was cut by Denver this off-season and scooped up by Maine, where he's now hitting .310 with 4 HR and 15 RBI in 18 games. To be fair a chunk of that came on the last day of May against Wilmington when he smashed two home runs and drove in six during an 11-3 victory. The third round pick from 2056 is a "league average" type of player according to scouts, and should be able to hold down a role in the majors for years to come.
Prospect of the Week

C Robby Price - He has the ability to the put the bat on the ball, and therefore avoid striking out, but we're not sure what else he can bring to the table as of now. At only 17 he has a long way to go before he'd play in the BLB, but someone will take a gamble on him in the upcoming draft. Price only started his senior year, where he hit .268/.319/.362 with 1 HR and 14 RBI, so to say he's raw would be putting it mildly.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The opening month of the 86th season of the BLB has come and gone, and it was none other than the Seattle Pilots who came out on top. The new management has inspired the franchise once again as Seattle went 17-7 to lead all teams. Coming in second was the Tobs at 16-8, while Dallas and Hartford went 15-8. Phoenix had a rough month at 6-17, while Baltimore went 8-15. The team leaders: Montreal scored 137 runs (IND 81), Dallas smashed 54 home runs (SYR 17), Batavia swiped 46 bases (PAW 7), Carolina allowed just 82 runs (PHO 136), while Dallas gave up just 175 hits (NYC 243).
2. Congrats to Ken 'Baseball' Burns who reached 3000 K's this past week after striking out Wilmington's Chandler Frazee in the 5th inning of their April 29th match-up. Drafted in the 3rd round of the 2050 draft by Santo Domingo, this is his 13th year on the mound for the Rum Runners. In one of the most dominant runs in BLB history, from 2056 to 2060 he took home the Pale Ale in four of the five seasons, and in the season he didn't he was still 14-10 with a 3.64 ERA and 107 ERA+. The 32 year old struggled last season (even with a 102 ERA+), but is 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA and 115 ERA+ so far this year. With seven All-Star appearances and those four Pale Ale's it's hard to not see him going into the Hall of Fame when his career is over.
3. Who is Colton Corbett and why is he dominating the league? The 22 year old was drafted by Montreal in the second round of the 2060 draft and played 78 games for the Exports last season, where he hit .331/.399/.557 with 15 HR and 40 RBI. This season in just 27 games he's hitting .379/.453/.806 with 11 HR and 21 RBI, while putting up a 254 OPS+. There is a reason Montreal is first in the Domestic in hits, home runs, runs scored, average and about every other offensive category when pitchers have to face Andy 'Turk' Christman and Corbett back to back. Christman meanwhile is hitting .316 and is still on pace to hit 66 home runs, drive in 138 runs, and put up a 9.0 WAR. What a bum.
4. No one is stealing bases like the Blues. In 28 attempts this season they've been successful 25 times, for a nice 89.3% success rate. On the other end of the spectrum Pawtucket has sent runners 12 times, and five them have ended in doom. Right behind Windy City is California, who is 42 for 49 (including a ridiculous 18 for 18 this past week), and Dallas who is 32 for 38. The Kodiaks lead all with a +4.08 wSB, while Seattle is on bottom at -2.85 thanks to getting thrown out over 36% of the time they've attempted to steal a base.
5. What's on tap? How about a bunch of first time inter-divisional series!
