    The Brewski's

The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 23rd Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.

    Player of the Year

CF Brian Van Hook, PAW - When you put up a 10.2 WAR, 1.5 better than second place and 3.3 better than third place, well you had quite the season. The 23 year old hit .356/.379/.683 with 40 HR, 127 RBI and put up a ridiculous +20.5 ZR in center field. The best hitter and best defender in the league wrapped up in one package, not bad for the 8th overall pick of the 2061 draft.

    Hitter of the Year

CF Brian Wheat, TOR - We could give this award to Van Hook, but we don't want his head to get too big. Instead we'll go with the 26 year old Wheat, who had his best season since 2060. With a slash line of .320/.386/.665 he also smashed 37 HR and drove in 93, all while missing almost a month with a sprained ankle. Wheat looks like he's back to the 2059-60 version where he won back-to-back Stout Sluggers. That's great news for Toronto fans.

    Pitcher of the Year

P Solomon Dockery, LAD - In only his third season Dockery had yet to put up a winning record, but that all changed in 2064. With a 16-5 record, 3.08 ERA, 140 ERA+ and 7.4 WAR, the 26 year old took the BLB by storm to win his first Pale Ale as well as the coveted Brewski. Throwing four pitches, and hitting 98 mph on the gun, the former 1st round pick gave up just nine home runs in 204.1 innings pitched, or 25 less than Charlie Spence.

    Rookie of the Year

CF Deontae Dennis, HAR - The Whalers are going places thanks to repeat winners in this category. Last season it was Levi Lane who dominated the league, this year Dennis played in 133 games and hit .285/.340/.510 with 23 HR, 60 RBI, 29 SB and a +3.6 ZR in center. Drafted 3rd overall in 2063 he played in A and AA that season, then made the big league roster this year during Spring Training and never looked back.

    Ford Raptor Award
(Given to the player with the highest PwrSpd value)

RF Byron Carlton, PIT - His 43.7 value barely beat out Tobs star Evan Turner to give the 28 year old his first Brewski. Hitting .264 with 34 HR, he also swiped 61 bases in 73 attempts. Drafted 9th overall in 2057 he's turned into a 3x All-Star and 3x Designated Driver in the outfield.

2057 winner: 3B Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman, IND
2060 winner: RF Ezekiel Wolfson, CHI
2061 winner: CF Stephen Caskey, CAL
2062 winner: CF Teddy Burch, MON
2063 winner: LF Isaac Pack, PIT

    All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily C/1B)

CF Garon Norgrove, WAS - Injuries allowed him to only play 116 games this season, but he spent 112 of them in center for the Bats. During that time he had 268 total chances, and made zero errors. He also put up a -1.1 ZR and had just a 2.48 range though, so apparently his plan to not run very far in order to win a Brewski paid off.

2030 winner: RF Dusty Janson, DEN
2031 winner: LF Jamie Hendon, NY
2032 winner: CF Gil Banda, SEA

    Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)

C Steven Hall, WC - Andy 'Turk' Christman won this award last season before he turned into a flaming pile of crap (Montreal press release), but this season it was Hall who barely beat out Chandler Frazee to get the win. With a RTO of 35.8%, Hall gunned down 48 out of the 134 runners who dared to challenge his authority behind the plate. The thing about Hall is that is arm is just above average, but his skill at catcher, and especially at framing pitches, is hard to beat. Combined with that fact that Windy City might boast the best pitching staff in the entire league when it comes to holding runners, and we got ourselves a new champion.

    2030 winner: Micah Gordon, WIL
2031 winner: Ian 'Pickles' James, SDR
    2032 winner: Landon McClelland, PHI

    Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
    (
Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)

LF Henry Keddie, WAS - The two year starter in Washington has already become a fan favorite for the Bats. Drafted in the second round of the 2058 draft, Keddie stole 63 bases in 71 attempts this season which made his 88.7% success rate the top in all the BLB last season. With Keddie's speed and ability scouts say if he would only put up a line better than .245/.321/.344 he would have no issue swiping 100 bases a season.

2030 winner: CF Pat Welch, BAT

    Ludacris Award
    (
Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

LF Isaac Pack, PIT - Back to back to back goes Pack, the most hittable man in baseball. This poor guy has been beaned 79 times in the last three seasons, as he led the league again this year with 26 more "free" bases thank to taking balls to the body. Considering he signed a $94m extension, then put up 2.4 WAR less, he should have taken even more.

2030 winner: 1B Geoff 'Mr. Reliable' Dail, MIA

    Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

1B Ari Lynn, DAL - The 23 year old rookie slugger had two things on his mind when he came up to bat. Hit the ball deep, or hit the ball deep. Therefore in 507 plate appearances he struck out 191 times, giving him a SO% of 37.7% which led the league. To be fair he did accomplish one of his two goals 33 times last season, and scouts think he will improve his ability to the put the bat on the ball. By the time this kid is fully developed he could be striking out only 174 times, while hitting 50 home runs.

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

SS Jared Bradley, HAR - Playing for the Whalers this past season, Bradley had 65 hits, with not one of them going over the fence. This is one of the lowest numbers we've seen in quite some time as players all over the league were hitting home runs (mostly off Charlie Spence). Last years winner, Austin Sarpong, hit a career high two home runs, while Olin 'Chief' Keele also had two, or just one less than he hit in the previous six seasons combined. Where is my Aubrey Albano, where is my infield single, where have all the cowboys gone?

    Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Shane Hellman, TOR - After signing with Toronto this past off-season, Hellman was moved back to a starting role for the first time since 2058 when he started 31 games for Windy City. What the Blues didn't tell the Canadians was that he was taken out of the role because of vision issues. He went on to go 8-17 with a 5.20 ERA and 85 ERA+ (his worst since 2058), and in the process bean 26 opposing batters. When asked about Hellman constantly squinting while on the mound, Toronto manager Tom Dingman was quoted as saying, "I just thought he was concentrating really hard."

    The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

P Theodore Blume, PHO - In a contract that ended almost as bad as Louie Dano Dasmarinas, Blume was paid $18,000,000 this past season to not throw a single pitch in the BLB. Instead the 38 year old played in AA, and didn't even do that well as he went 1-9 with a 7.46 ERA. Over his last two seasons Blume was paid $46,000,000 to go 2-9 with a 10.44 ERA in 2063, and then not even make an appearance this year. After the season the 4x All-Star and 3x Pale Ale winner decided to retire, and the Pittsburgh Millers retired his number. Over his career he was 183-153 with a 3.71 ERA and 109 ERA+. He also earned (for the most part) $321,571,250.
