    The Brewski's

The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 22nd Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.

    Player of the Year

P Charlie Spence, CAL - The 33 year old 'California Legend' went 22-4 with a 2.29 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 175 ERA+, and 7.0 WAR, while also striking out 330 opposing batters. He was the the league leader in wins, strikeouts, quality starts, and WAR. He is the most dominant player in the league, and the most dominant pitchers we've seen since Christian Vines back in the 2040's. He is also the first pitcher to win this award since 2056, when Carolina legend Charlie Spence took it home.

    Hitter of the Year

LF Isaac Pack, PIT - Discovered out of Guam back in 2049 he hit .329/.408/.621 with 38 HR and 107 RBI while also scoring 106 runs and stealing 47 bases. He was first overall in OBP, SLG, OPS, WAR, EBH, OPS+ and WPA. He is known not only for being one of the smartest guys in the clubhouse, but one of the hardest working ones as well. Considering he's hasn't posted above a 3.9 WAR since 2058, and it was a contract year, we will vouch for his brains.

    Pitcher of the Year

P R.V. Weatherby, CHI - The 'stopper' in Windy City pitched so many innings that he robbed Spence of taking home the Triple Crown. Weatherby appeared in 72 games, pitched 162.1 innings, and went 12-5 with 16 saves and a 2.05 ERA. His 4.6 WAR and 195 ERA+ were both career highs, which is saying a lot since he's been the most dominant middle reliever in the BLB over the past few years. Since 2060 he's the only reliever in the top 35 for overall WAR, as he comes in 18th overall with a 14.1.

    Ford Raptor Award
(Given to the player with the highest PwrSpd value)

LF Isaac Pack, PIT - With a 42.0 score he barely beat out California's Spencer Stephens who posted a 41.4. Pack had 38 HR and 47 SB, while Stephens had 34 HR and 53 SB. Did we mention it was a contract year for Pack? Did we also mention he just got paid $94.4 million?

2057 winner: 3B Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman, IND
2060 winner: RF Ezekiel Wolfson, CHI
2061 winner: CF Stephen Caskey, CAL
2062 winner: CF Teddy Burch, MON

    All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily first base)

CF Brian Wheat, TOR - Already in his sixth year the 25 year old is considered one of the best center fielders in the game. This past season he had 354 total chances out in the field, and never made a single error. Combined with the fact that he hit .291 with 35 HR, 113 RBI, and swiped 23 bases it's no wonder he's a 2x Stout Slugger and 5x All-Star.

    Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)

C Andy 'Turk' Christman - The best hitting catcher in the league is also one of the best defensive catchers as well. That just doesn't seem fair. Christman hit .331/.391/.573 with 33 HR and 91 RBI, all while throwing out a ridiculous 43.6% of runners. The next catcher who played over 100 games, Garett Thomas of New Orleans, came in at 37.0%. In total 110 runners tested 'Turk', and 48 of them went back to the dugout sad. He also was one for one in stolen bases when on September 16th he stole second against he Millers. Then he did it again October 20th against Pittsburgh in a playoff game! Talk about adding insult to injury.

    Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
    (
Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)

3B Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman, MAI - The guy is 36 years old and still has the wheels and cunning to swipe base after base. This past season for the Guides he stole 47 bases in 53 attempts as his 88.7% success rate led all. Drafted first overall by Batavia back in 2045 he has turned into a 7x All-Star, 2x BLB champion, and took home the 2055 Domestic Stout Slugger with Indy. Now a free agent he's still one of the best base runners in the league, while also sporting a mean glove at third.

    Ludacris Award
    (
Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

LF Isaac Pack, PIT - One of the reasons Pack posted a career year was because he took a ball to body 26 times, five more than second place, and captured this award for the second straight season. What is it about Pack that makes pitchers want to hit him?

2030 winner: 1B Geoff 'Mr. Reliable' Dail, MIA

2062 winner: LF Isaac Pack, PIT

    Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

1B Frank 'Slugger' Memmi, MAI - It appears he might finally be slowing down, but after being discarded by Californai he went to Maine and smacked 89 home runs over the 2061 and 2062 season. No one hit more. Unfortunately last season he only hit 30 out of the park while striking out 204 times. To be fair to 'Slugger' though he played in 30 less games and battled some knee and elbow injuries. Regardless the numbers don't lie, and Memmi's strikeout rate of 39.7% led the entire league and was over 2% points higher than Walter Muller, who took home this award last season.

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

SS Austin Sarpong, DEN - Olin 'Chief' Keele could have repeated, as he led the entire league with 215 hits, but no he was too good for that. On August 13th he hit a lead off home run against Santo Domingo, his first since 2060, and Sarpong was able to wrench away his title. With Albano now retired the 26 year old Keele was the heir apparent, but our faith in him has been lost. Sarpong is known more for his amazing glove, but he did end up with 117 hits on the season. He had 95 singles, 20 doubles, two triples, and he did reach the warning track once on a fly out. Alas it appears the stars aligned for him to add another trophy to the case.

    Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Derian Romary, LAD - After a life being called 'Rosemary' one to many times, Derian only sees red when he pitches. This past season he beaned 26 opposing batters, eight more than second place. When you are almost 50% more than the next guy you might want to talk to someone.

    2030 winner: Nate Bettis, PHO

    The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

P Theodore Blume, PHO - How the mighty have fallen. Father Time catches up to everyone, and with the 37 year old Blume it was last season. In 12 starts he was 2-9 with a 10.44 ERA and 2.44 WHIP. He was eventually moved to the bullpen, before getting demoted all the way to AA, his first time in the minors since 2048. We forgot to mention that he was paid $28,000,000 for his services. Yikes!

The 4x All-Star and 3x Pale Ale winner was the seventh overall pick in the 2043 draft and a force for Pittsburgh in his early years. He was traded to Pawtucket in 2055 after starting off the season 1-6 with a 5.11 ERA, and then made his way to Dallas. He put up a huge 2058 in Dallas (19-4, 2.95 ERA), and continued his revival in 2059 for California (13-9, 2.64 ERA). After that he hovered around the league average and was traded to Batavia, then traded once again to Phoenix. Sadly (for the Roadrunners), he's scheduled to make another $18m this season.
