    The Brewski's

The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 20th Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.

    Player of the Year

CF Teddy Burch, MON - He might be #21 in the program, but he's #1 in our book (and hearts). The 22 year old hit .336/.389/.511 with 13 HR, 74 RBI, and 68 SB while putting up a +10.5 ZR in 150 games in center field. Throw in his league leading 9.0 WAR, 1.7 points higher than second place, and he's well out front for this Brewski.

Overall in 150 games he hit .249/.328/.517 with 44 HR, 97 RBI, and a 122 OPS+. He also stole nine bases and played 149 games at first.

    Pitcher of the Year

P LaVar Abrudan, PAW - He won the Pale Ale in 2055 with Dallas, struggled for two straight years, then signed with Indy and struggled again in 2058. It was his worst year statistically to date and when Pawtucket came calling midway through 2059 off he went via trade. Since then he's gotten better every season, including this one where he put up a career high 4.9 WAR and 155 ERA+. His final numbers were 12-6 with a 2.51 ERA, and he only added to the year with a 3-0 postseason as he helped Pawtucket capture their third title in just over a decade.

    Rookie of the Year

CF Alex Cain, DEN - The young bucks are coming in hot to the league as the 22 year old Cain was nearly unstoppable in his rookie campaign. In 149 games he hit .289/.337/.508 with 25 HR, 82 RBI, and 65 stolen bases while tallying a 7.3 WAR. He also played 145 games in center where he put up a +9.1 ZR. Drafted first overall in 2060 he's become one of a handful of 'generational' young outfielders that are taking the league by storm.

    __________________________________________________

    Ford Raptor Award
(Given to the player with the highest PwrSpd value)

CF Stephen Caskey, CAL - California doesn't rebuild, they just reload. Caskey was a second round pick in 2057 and this was already his third full season in the bigs. He played in 152 games in center where he hit .296 with 27 HR and 72 SB, giving him a PwrSpd rating of 39.3, which barely beat out his teammate Spencer Stephens. Caskey is 25, Stephens is 23, Brady Hill is 22, and Rory Elia Jr. is 21. Yikes!

2057 winner: 3B Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman, IND
2060 winner: RF Ezekiel Wolfson, CHI

    All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily first base)

SS Jared Bradley, IND - He isn't know for his bat (.244, 2 HR, 34 RBI) but man can he field the ball at shortstop. In 150 games he had 580 total chances, and committed no errors. Looking back in the history of the league there has never been another shortstop or second basemen who played the entire season and didn't commit a single error. Talk about a pretty special season to say the least. His 24.1 zone rating wasn't too bad either.

2030 winner: RF Dusty Janson, DEN
2031 winner: LF Jamie Hendon, NY
2032 winner: CF Gil Banda, SEA
2033 winner: CF Tom White, SDR

2060 winner: CF Cody Janway, PAW

    Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)

C Chandler Frazee, WIL - There was Frazee at 44.3%, and then there was everyone else (below 37%). The 23 year old was a first round pick in 2058 by the Wildcats out of Oklahoma State mainly due to his ability behind the plate. We're not talking about hitting, although he did hit .277 on the year, but for his ability and absolute rocket of an arm. The rookie had 106 runners test him, and 47 of them found out the hard way he wasn't to trifle with. He was also second in CERA (3.26) and second in FRM (3.24) for full-time starters. Frazee is already a fan favorite and could end up one of the best defensive catchers the league has ever seen.

    Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
    (
Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)

LF Spencer Stephens, CAL - When you go 45 for 50 in anything that's a darn good season, and that's what Stephens did on the base paths. The 23 year old isn't the fastest, but his instincts and ability to know how and when to steal a base are second to none. So far in his career he's 117 for 126 in stolen base attempts, or 92.8%. Double yikes!

2030 winner: CF Pat Welch, BAT

    Ludacris Award
    (
Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

2B Rykeem Potts, CHI - The poor guy takes 26 balls for the cause, seven more than second place, then the GM lets him just walk out the door. The longtime Tob was traded to Baltimore in 2060 for peanuts, became a free agent, then got signed by Windy City on a MLC with a majors option for $2m. He ended up playing 160 games for the Blues, mostly at DH, and took a beating doing it. In eight seasons he's been beaned 128 times, second most during that time span. Only Burgess 'Nuke' Nalivkin has him beat with a shocking 141 HP. Some guys just like to feel pain to know they are alive.

2030 winner: 1B Geoff 'Mr. Reliable' Dail, MIA
2031 winner: 2B Dave 'Bulldog' Bickford, NY

2060 winner: 2B Tom Ho, SDR

    Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

1B Frank 'Slugger' Memmi, MAI - It's not often the Hitter of the Year wins a dubious award as well, but 'Slugger' struck out a ridiculous 38.5% of the time he came up to bat. So basically 45% of the time Memmi either hit a home run, or struck out. Talk about feast or famine. When asked about it after the season he was quite quick with a response. "The Cali GM called me things I've never been called before. He said that $126,000,000 contract I got was the biggest mistake he's ever made, but not as big as when my dad and mom decided to have me...and that's the things I can repeat. I went into this season trying to prove him wrong. We ended up with the best record in the league. I'd say I proved my point."

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

2B Aubrey 'Gypsy' Albano, DAL - Last years winner goes back-to-back. The now 40 year old Albano cranked out 202 hits, passed 4000 for his career, and yet for the third time in four seasons didn't have one clear the outfield fence. His career totals are now 4,093 hits and 46 home runs...so if you've seen one go out of the park, you're in the 0.01% club.

    Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Alex Landrum, NYC - The scouting report on Landrum states he "either internalizes or is just impersonal." Oh he internalizes alright, his hate for opposing batters that is. Some players motivate themselves by anger, but even teammates are quick to say they won't talk to Landrum on game days. This season he decided to bean 24 players, four more than second place. He also only threw three wild pitches. Two "happened" to be behind the batter. He is a 2x All-Star in four full seasons with the Cyclones though, so we're pretty sure they're okay with however he happens to play the game.

    The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

1B R.J. McCarthy - When you make $18,000,000 while playing in 41 BLB games (.215, 3 HR, 9 RBI), and 42 AAA games (.253, 2 HR) that's criminal. What's even worse is the guy executed his contract option year (again) and will make another $18,000,000 in 2062. To be fair he had a few decent seasons with the Muckdogs after they signed him to a six year/$105m contract in 2057, but those days are long gone. Looks like we may have a repeat winner next season.
