The Brewski's
The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 19th Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.
Player of the Year
CF Brian Wheat, TOR - The 22 year old has become the face of the league as he's now won back-to-back Stout Sluggers while leading his team to the Brewmasters and then DLCS the last two seasons. In 2060 he hit .351/.413/.598 with 25 HR, 95 RBI, 42 SB, and posted a +10.0 ZR in center field. He's also a leader in the clubhouse and scouts think he still has room to grow. Yes it's early in his career, but when it's all said and done he might go down as the greatest player to ever play the game.

RF Ryan Carr, SEA - He finished second in Stout Slugger voting, but no one scares pitchers more than the 24 year old Carr right now. Last season he hit .314/.379/.607 with 44 HR and 126 RBI. The 22nd overall pick of the 2057 draft is 6'5, 200 lbs, and should be batting in the middle of the lineup for the Pilots for the next decade.

Pitcher of the Year
P Jannero Peter, BAL - No one can hit Peter when he's on, and he was on a lot last season. In 33 starts he went 21-5 with a 3.07 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 124 ERA+. It was his 10th straight winning season as the 32 year old just keeps getting better. With a devastating fastball, and just as devastating slider, he's been a joy to watch as he's won two Pale Ales, been to seven All-Star games, and helped Baltimore win the 2058 Brewmasters.

Rookie of the Year
CF Teddy Burch, MON - He finished second in the New Brew to his teammate Eli Tracy, but Burch held down center field, one of the most important positions in the field, with a +6.2 ZR. Oh yeah, he also hit .299/.345/.412 with 6 HR, 42 RBI, and 55 SB. He's 21 years old. Tracy is 23 years old. How did this happen?

Ford Raptor Award
(Given to the player with the highest PwrSpd value)
RF Ezekiel Wolfson, CHI - In his first full season Wolfson hit .302/.343/.526 with 29 HR, 97 RBI, and 40 stolen bases. His PwrSpd value of 33.6 was over two points higher than Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman. Wolfson was a scouting find out of Estonia back in 2053 and at just 24 years old has turned into the fan favorite of the team. Windy City is on the rise, and Wolfson will be the one leading the charge.
New Award
2057 winner: 3B Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman, IND
All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily first base)
CF Cody Janway, PAW - He played center field for the Patriots in 151 games last season, had 385 total chances to make a mistake, and ended up not committing a single error. A second round pick by Seattle in 2055, he was traded to Pawtucket in 2056 and made his BLB debut in 2057. He's not much of a hitter, but he gets on base at a .338 clip and stole 51 bases last season.

Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)
C Evan Buhler, NYC - This guy won the DWI at catcher for New York last season, become a free agent, and ended up signing back with the Cyclones a few weeks ago for less than he did before the start of last season. This was after he went to the All-Star game in 2058 for New York, become a free agent, and signed for less than he did on a two year extension for the Cyclones before 2057. How does he keep slipping by everyone else during the off-season? We suppose we should talk about the award, as Buhler had 105 runners try to steal on him, and he gunned down 42 of them for a cool 40 RTO%. Only two catchers were above 33.3% all of last season, and his 40% was the highest RTO% since 2050. Sounds like someone who should be getting paid.

Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
(Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)
LF Elias 'Clapper' Owen, IND - The 31 year old (that's hard to believe) swiped 58 bases in 65 attempts, giving him a league leading 89.2 SB%. 'Clapper' is now third all-time among active players, and fifth all-time in the history of the league. Sadly for Owen he's actually slowing down, as 58 is the lowest amount of swipes he's had since his rookie season back in 2050. An absolute force of nature in his younger years, his 115 stolen bases in 2052 is still the single season all-time record, and one of only two times in the history of the league someone went over 100. The other someone is Chase 'Havoc' Calhoun who stole 106 in his magically rookie season of 2058.

2057 winner: CF Raymond Crisp, DAL
Ludacris Award
(Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)
2B Tom Ho, SDR - There must be something about Ho that just makes pitchers dislike him, as he led the league in getting on base the hard way. It was his first season in Santo Domingo, and he played in a career high 153 games, but in 551 bats he took a ball to body 22 times. One in every 25 at bats ended up with another bruise, but when you are a lifetime .257 hitter you'll do whatever you can to stay in the league.

Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)
LF Wade 'Bulldozer' Cummins, BAT - The second overall pick of the 2056 draft is only 22, but made his major league debut at just 18 years old. Since then he's been a career .230 hitter, with an abysmal .196 average last season. Last year he played in 131 games, had 571 plate appearances, and struck out a whopping 240 times. His strikeout percentage of 42% was the highest of any full time player in the league. Scouts think he can grow into a top player, but getting called up at such a young age wrecked his confidence. Hopefully he can find his swing (or learn how to stop swinging) and turn things around.

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)
2B Aubrey 'Gypsy' Albano, DAL - The 39 year old Albano hit .334 in 149 games last season, just one point below his lifetime average. The 12x All-Star was a scouting discovery out of the Philippines in 2037 by the then Miami Sharks. He's still a fan favorite, can still play at a DWI level at second, and still can't hit the ball over the fence. In fact since 2054 he's hit five total home runs. In 2058 he was shutout, but got back at it in 2059 when he knocked one out of the park. Let's see what he can do this season at 40 years young.

Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)
P Rice Cochell, SDR - The second round pick in 2052 has the top repertoire of pitches in the league. The guy throws a fastball, curveball, sinker, splitter, and cutter...all at an all-star type level. He also smoked 22 batters last season, tops in the league. Part of that is he gets tired easily, and when he's tired he's a little wild. The other part is because he hates people, especially opposing batters. Apparently he like to "stand in a corner in a crowded bar" and just stare at people. Great during a baseball game, serial killer'ish in public.

The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)
CF Gavin Tucker, PIT - After making $74,590,000 during his career with the Millers, they brought him back last season on a one-year deal worth $7,500,000. Tucker ended up playing 91 games for AAA Allentown, and one game for the Millers. In that one game he had one at bat, and struck out. The four-time DWI winner and the 2050 Refreshing New Brew is now 34 and well past his prime, but we think getting paid $7,500,000 to strike out one time was a little much.
