Maine goes 5-1 to get above .500, Washington goes 5-1 to get above .500, Montreal goes 5-1 to almost catch New Orleans...darn exciting times in the BLB. Just shows you can never count your team out of it. No matter how bad things may start off, water usually finds it's level. As for the Power Rankings, the Birds stay on top. With a 4-2 week, and a leagues worst 1-5 week by Seattle, the Roadrunners now have a three game lead in the Bock. They were five games out of first at the end of April, and here they sit as the best team in baseball in July. Other top weeks were Indy, Pittsburgh, and SDR who all went 4-2. The Rum Runners are now above .500 and in the Domestic Wildcard, while Indy is 3.5 games back and Pittsburgh is just four. Remember folks...

Performance of the Week
P Jake Stewart - After an amazing rookie season in 2057 (13-4, 3.76 ERA) he put up two straight sub-100 ERA+ seasons. This year though in 18 starts he's 10-6 with a 2.62 ERA and 150 ERA+. This past week against Batavia he tossed a three-hit shutout with two walks and 10 K's as Montreal easily won 7-0. The former 2052 fourth round pick looks like he's finally performing like scouts thought he would when they stated "he's a #1 starter on most teams."
Prospect of the Week
RF Devyn Glover - The 17th pick of this years draft played in 158 high school games over four years and hit .338/.393/.560 with 35 HR and 123 RBI. He looks like a decent corner outfielder down the road, but lets be honest, his bat is what is taking him places. Scouts are in love with his contact and power potential, as he has "clean-up hitter" written all over him. Throw in the fact that he's smart and studious, and this kid could be special.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The Domestic is just nuts when it comes to potential playoff races, as the bottom feeders of Pawtucket, Pittsburgh, and Wilmington are just...let me double check this...four games out of the final Wildcard spot. Montreal, who holds the top Wildcard spot, is only seven games ahead of them. Throw in the fact that Montreal is only a game behind New Orleans, and two behind DL leader Syracuse...and the Domestic is separated by just nine total games from top to bottom. Meanwhile in the Import poor Batavia is 17 games back, Windy City is 13.5, Philly is 12, and California is 10. Sometimes it's just more fun when everyone is mediocre.
2. In the we like playing them files: Phoenix is 8-1 against Denver and LAD, NYC is 8-1 against Batavia, Washington is 7-1 against Cali, NYC is 7-1 against Phoenix (shocking), and Phoenix is 7-1 against Washington.
3. Jakob Hilliard of the Roadrunners is on pace to strike out 374 batters this season, which would break Charlie Spence's 2056 record of 365. We talked about Hilliard last week, but he's truly become the 'King of the K' for the league. Also Brian Wheat has an outside shot to break the triple record of 22 held by Chase Calhoun, Ricky Figueroa, and Dennis Daley. Fig's set it in 2029, and Daley and Calhoun tied it in 2055 and 2058 respectively. Wheat right now is on pace for 20, as he currently has 11 through 88 games.
4. All-Star voting is down to the wire as the aforementioned Brian Wheat leads the Domestic, while Seattle slugger Ryan Carr leads the Import. Carr was the 22nd overall pick of the 2057 draft by Seattle, and the 23 year old is on pace to hit .321 with 51 HR and 131 RBI in only his second full season. Meanwhile Wheat is on pace to hit .353 with 27 HR, 98 RBI, 49 SB, and already has a 5.9 ZR in center field. Looks like back-to-back Stout Sluggers for him.
5. What's on tap? It's a short week as the 2060 All-Star break is upon us. After the players bargained to not play the game, the weekend will feature the home run derby and prospect game at Old Port Park. Some of the fun series before the break though feature SDR at New Orleans, and Syracuse at Maine. All four teams have winning records in the oh so tight Domestic. Streak wise Teddy Burch (MON) and Devpm Cundiff (PHO) have 12 game hitting streaks.
