What a week for a few teams as Baltimore, Pawtucket, Seattle and Montreal all went 6-1. Meanwhile six teams went 2-5 and LAD went 1-5...so what a week for them as well. For the first 'what a week' though the Bulldogs have established themselves as the team to beat this season. The defending champs are firing on all cylinders and have built a 10.5 game lead in the Stout, and are the only team with 70 or more wins. Montreal uses their big week to take over the Lager by a game, while Seattle now has a seven game lead over California. Meanwhile Pawtucket is 49-59, had their first non-losing month in July (13-13), and is only a half game out of the final Wildcard spot in the Domestic.

Performance of the Week
P Levi Brown - Bad Bad Levi Brown, the baddest man in the whole dang town, is the undisputed heart and soul of the Bulls team. Even at 8-10 this season he's put up a 3.09 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 125 ERA+. This past week against Washington on August 1st he allowed no runs, three hits, no walks, and struck out 12 as Denver won 2-0. The former fourth round pick is now 28, signed a huge extension this past off-season, and appears to be a Bull for life.
Prospect of the Week
LF Martin Robbins - Out in that west Oregon town of Eugene, scouts fell in love with a Kentucky boy. Okay so he isn't Robbins great great grandfather Marty, but we still like him anyways. The 21 year old was the Bats first round pick in 2055 and shows flashes of power behind the plate and speed on the base paths. He's known as a prankster around the locker room and he could be a decent corner outfielder in a few seasons.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. We're onto August. The month of July has come and gone for the 81st time in the history of the BLB. There was no dominant team this time, as California lead the league with a 15-9 record, while Toronto, Washington, and Seattle all went 15-10. Throw in Pittsburgh at 15-11 and it was a month for mediocrity. Stat wise Washington scored 133 runs (NO 76), Washington hit 42 home runs (DEN 14), Toronto swiped 53 bases (LAD 6), Cali allowed just 87 runs (IND 146), and opponents hit just .238 off SDR (HAR .296).
2. The Domestic Wildcard should be a lot of fun as whoever doesn't win the division between Montreal/Wilmington/Toronto have locked up the top two spots. The final two spots though are between Syracuse, Maine, Hartford, Dallas, Pawtucket, New Orleans, and Indy. From the Snappers to the Clowns it's only a difference of four and a half games, which is wild for seven teams to be that close in August. Per our friends at Stats+ the odds are Syracuse (65%), Hartford (36%), Maine (34%), Pawtucket (21%), Dallas (16%), Indy (14%), and New Orleans (12%).
3. Brian Wheat just took home the Batter of the Month for Toronto, and has a legitimate chance to win a Triple Crown. He's currently hitting .338 with 24 HR and 37 RBI, which put him second, third, and first in the Domestic. He's also stolen 24 bases, and is one of two players in the 20/20 club. The other being Seattle first basemen Beau Pruett. The first overall pick of the 2056 draft is everything Toronto hoped for and more. What's crazy is the kid won't even be 21 until next month.
4. In the we like playing these guys department: Windy City is 9-0 against Denver, Seattle is 9-0 vs LAD, Baltimore is 8-1 against Philly, Montreal is 7-0 against Pawtucket, New York is 7-1 vs Denver, Pawtucket is 6-1 against SDR, New York is 6-1 vs Windy City, and Hartford is 5-1 against Maine.
5. What's on tap...how about a little interleague love once again. This week we get to see a battle of the 1's as Seattle travels to Montreal. The Pilots are first in the Import in almost every pitching category, and boast an offense that is third in hits and runs scored as well. The Exports meanwhile are first in the Domestic in hits, on base percentage, and runs scored. Meanwhile they are 10th in starters ERA and hits allowed, and sixth in runs allowed. Sounds like a good battle to us. Streak wise Pawtucket and Montreal have won five straight, and Ian Schreiber (HAR) has a 12 game hitting streak.
