  • The 2059 Daily Keg - Week 10

    06/09/2059

The Bulldogs continue their run by going 6-1 this past week as they swept Philly then took three of four from Phoenix. They now have a 5.5 game lead over New York, and 7.5 game lead over Washington, in the Stout. Looks like the defending champs just keep on chugging along. The other hot team is also from the Import as Seattle goes 6-1 to build a 6.5 game lead over Cali in the Bock. Other good weeks belonged to Pittsburgh and New York who each went 5-2. The Millers are the only team in the Ale with a winning record and have built a 10 game division lead, while the Cyclones try and keep up with the Bulldogs. On the flip side of life poor Denver went 0-7. The snowball effect is strong as they just keep tumbling down. The good news is they will have a top pick, and with some of these young guys coming out of college they could get really good, really quick.

    Performance of the Week

LF Isaac Pack - He's having a down year so far, but Pack turned in the #3 overall hitting performance of the season against Hartford on June 3rd. In the 15-1 Millers win he had three hits, one home run, drove in seven, and scored twice. On the season he's now hitting .250 with 7 HR and 26 RBI in 54 games.

    Prospect of the Week

1B Sean 'Judge' Hayward - The 21 year old has the skill set to be playing in the BLB already, but for now he'll just dominate AAA. In 46 games he's hitting .303 with 12 HR, 26 RBI and a 148 OBS+. Drafted 12th overall last season he's the 30th overall prospect in the league and his ETA per the 'Prospect Pipeline' has him making his debut this season. Time will tell what the Clowns choose to do with this Cat.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. We missed the monthly report as May came and went. Seattle was the dominant team as no one bested their 21-8 record. They started the month 2.5 back from California and ended the month with a four game division lead. Montreal was next up as they were a sizzling 21-9. At 35-25 it looks like the Exports could be playoff bound once again after missing last season. Finally we had Baltimore who went 20-10. The defending champions went from fourth in the Stout to first, and their lead continues to climb. Stat wise Montreal scored 167 runs (Den 77), Wilmington hit 44 home runs (Den 14), Phoenix swiped 62 bases (LAD 8), New York allowed just 77 runs (Den 160), and opponents hit .201 against Seattle (Den .295).

    2. Dallas has won 90+ games in eight of the last nine seasons, and over 100 games three of those years. This year sadly they are 23-36 and in last place in the Lager. What's even sadder is that the Drillers were unable to bring home a championship during that run. Their streak of bad postseason luck is second to none as the Dallas Sharks won in 2017 and 2020, but the Drillers have only been back to the Brew once since then. Fans hoped for a win during the 2053 season, but the powerhouse Bats beat them 4-1 to capture their 11th Brewmasters Cup Trophy. This season though all those wins have caught up with them as they are bottoming out. They are last in the Domestic in both runs scored, and runs allowed, and had a dismal May where they went 10-19. They now find themselves 16 games back. Hopefully for the fan base they can rebound quickly and secure a playoff spot once again in the near future.

    3. When the Bulldogs acquired Val Schmit last season from Carolina he was the missing piece of the puzzle it appears. At the time he was hitting .267 with 16 HR in 61 games, and over the following 59 games in Baltimore he hit .318 with 18 HR, even though he missed the last month of the season. He then was the division series MVP before helping lead the Bulldogs to their first Brew title since 2001. This season he's on pace for a 3.4 WAR, which is lower than last season and his career average, but he's also projected to smack 49 HR and drive in 124 runs. He signed a huge six year $156m contract this off-season as well. He's had issues in the locker room before, but as of now everything is coming up roses for Baltimore and Schmit.

    4. With all the young stars in the BLB it's nice to see old man Aubrey 'Gypsy' Albano of the Drillers leading the league with a .376 average. The 38 year old was discovered by scouts back when the Dallas Drillers were the Miami Sharks in 2037, but was traded to Pawtucket in 2041. Since then he's become one of the most decorated players to ever play. He's been to 12 All-Star games, is a 9x Designated Driver, and has won three Defense with Integrity awards. He could also be arguably the best contact hitter to ever play in the league. This is his 20th season in the BLB, and he only hit under .300 one time, his rookie season where he hit .279 in just 59 games. Jaime 'Toro' Rush is currently a .337 lifetime hitter, while Albano comes in at .336. Will he be able to catch him?

    5. What's on tap? We're back to interleague as the Domestic and Import square off for the third time this year. Some fun series are New York at Montreal (both second in their division and only a game apart in the standings) and Washington at Toronto (both third in their division and only a game apart in the standings). Streak wise Albano has a 13 game hitting streak, Charlie Jones (SYR) has scored in nine straight games, and Conner Cook (SEA) hasn't lost in 10 straight starts and has won nine straight decisions.
