Toronto, Washington, and California all go 5-1 last week, as the Kodiaks now have a leagues best 10-3 record. After sweeping Santo Domingo, and taking two of three from Wilmington, they are also first in the Power Rankings in what seems like years. On the other side of life New Orleans went 1-6, while Santo Domingo, Syracuse, and Windy City all went 1-5. Sometimes you are the hammer, sometimes you are the nail.

Performance of the Week
P Hayden 'Jailhouse' Watkins - After absolutely getting smoked in his first two starts (0-2, 20.25 ERA), Watkins got back on track against Indy when he went 8.1 innings, allowed three hits, no runs, and struck out seven. Sadly it took Philly until the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, to walk the game off and 'Jailhouse' got the no decisions. At least he's now 0-2 with a 7.90 ERA.
Prospect of the Week
2B Rory Elia Jr. - It appears everything is coming up gold in California as the first overall pick of last years draft had a good opening week in the Rookie League. By 'good' we mean hitting .542/.586/1.208 with 5 HR and 10 RBI in six games. The 18 year old still has to develop a bit more, but he's projected to reach the majors by 2061.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Jannero Peter is now 3-0 with 21.0 innings pitched, 17 hits allowed, no runs, no walks, and 29 strikeouts. He's on pace to go 36-0 with a 0.00 ERA while putting up a 15.6 WAR. We'd give him the Pale Ale now but California's Bobby Ferguson is close behind. He's 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA, as he's allowed just two runs while striking out 31. Coming over to the Import from Santo Domingo, he transitioned into a starter last season and finished second in the Pale Ale voting. Remember just two short years ago this guy won the Last Call when he was 11-2 with 42 saves and a 1.36 ERA. We haven't seen a pitcher put up awards like that since Tony Ramos.
2. Speaking of California...I don't think we've covered them enough yet...did we mention their rebuild took all of two seasons. From 2035 to 2055 this team went to the playoffs every single season. They then went 81-82 in 2056, and 68-94 in 2057. Last season they went back to the playoffs by going 83-79, and here they are 10-3. They signed Ferguson and Theodore Blume to huge contracts this off-season, and instantly once again became contenders. They must have mortgaged their future though? Nope, they have the top minor league system in the league thanks to getting Elia Jr. first overall, and then their scouts finding Mervin Teremesha in the baseball hotbed of Swaziland. Some teams just get all the breaks.
3. Philly won 67 games last season, their most since 2052 when they won 88 and went to the playoffs. They are getting better though. This season they are 6-7 and have been competitive other than a 17-8 loss to Pittsburgh last week. They do have one big problem, and it's Rob 'Hit Squad' Morris. Oh no, he's not a problem for them. He's a problem for the rest of the league. The 22 year old reigning New Brew and DWI winner at center field is an absolute menace to opposing pitchers and hitters. Drafted second overall behind Andy Christman, he's already ranked the second best player in the league behind Chase Calhoun, and our bold statement is that he is better. He's still developing, but he's on pace to hit .458 with 12 HR, 100 RBI, and 87 SB while putting up a +12.0 ZR in center. Like Calhoun this is a guy who can completely change a franchise.
4. That 2057 draft was just ridiculous and will be talked about for decades to come. Andy Christman, Rob Morris, Thaddeus Morrison, Chase Calhoun, and Brad Castro were picks one through five. Christman is the #2 prospect, Morris we just chatted about, Morrison is the #4 prospect, Calhoun is the reigning Stout Slugger, and Castro is the #14 overall prospect and looks like a future .300+ hitter with DWI skills at short stop.
5. What's on tap? It's a fun week for division foes lead by none other than Baltimore at Washington. The Bats have won the Stout nine out of the last ten years, and twenty times since 2019, which is just an unprecedented run. They've also captured six Brewmasters since 2032, and are without a doubt the greatest franchise the league has ever seen. The Bulldogs though are always up there. A solid 80 to 90 win team is what the fans expect, and last season they went from wild card to world champion, their first title in 57 years. They have been picked by many to repeat, and this series will be a fun one. Streak wise New Orleans has lost six straight, Toronto has won five straight, Rob Morris has a 20 game hitting streak, Andy Dillon (LAD) has scored in eight straight games, and Frank 'Slugger' Memmi (CAL) has homered in three straight.
