Seattle was the best in the west as they went 5-1 this past week. We suppose when you play the Ale good things are bound to happen. After taking two of three against Pittsburgh they swept the Clowns 4-1, 4-2, and 4-1. The other top teams were Windy City, and Maine...as they both went 5-1 as well. The powerhouse Guides now lead the Ale by 2.5 games as they check in with a 33-31 record. On the other side of life Denver went 0-6, while Philly and Pawtucket went 1-5.

Performance of the Week
P Louis Berry - We only had two players break into the Top Performances this past week, and they both took over 24th place (out of 25). Berry had the higher game score though (83) so here we are. On June 13th against Pawtucket he went seven innings, allowed two hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out 10 as the Roadrunners won 1-0. Phoenix had three hits and scored their lone run in the first inning, then just had four hits the rest of the way. It was enough though as Berry moves to 6-4 with a 5.17 ERA and 1.58 WHIP on the season.
Prospect of the Week
2B Rory Elia Jr. - The #1 pick in the recent draft debuted as the #4 prospect in the league, and that's some great news for Kodiak fans. The son of Hall of Famer Rory Elia was born in 2040 and is just 17 years old, but he appears to have his fathers genetics. In his four year HS career he played all 160 games while hitting .360/.413/.693 with 51 HR, 178 RBI, and 32 SB. Scouts think he can impact the game with his bat, glove, and "wheels on the base paths".
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Jesse Baker is the old man of the Toronto lineup at 30 years old, but he showed the young kids up a few days ago when he hit for the cycle. In six at bats he tallied up five hits while scoring twice. Unfortunately for the Canadians in the bottom of the 12th pinch-hitter Landon Garber singled in Jared Rosewall to walk it off for the Cyclones. Baker signed a contract with Toronto in February of this year, and made news in May after being involved in a bench clearing brawl against most of the Wilmington infield. So far in 42 games he's hitting .300 with 3 HR and 10 RBI, while being a very solid glove at first.
2. As mentioned Maine is back above .500 and leading the Ale, and one of the reasons is their defense. Last season they posted a +2.90 ZR for the year, finishing 11th overall in the league. This season they are at +20.13, and second only to Seattle. Leading the charge is 22 year old Walt Dutro. The 14th overall pick in 2056 has played 60 games at second base and already posted a +7.5 ZR. When you add 2x DWI winning centerfielder Jaret Foley (+6.8 ZR) to the mix, well it only makes the Guide's pitchers happier. No wonder Maine is third in hits and fourth in runs allowed. Apparently pitching and defense, with an emphasis on defense, still works.
3. Hartford re-upped Jamel 'Cheese' Thomas this past week to a four year extension that will pay him $49,000,000 over that time. That's a sweet home town deal for a 26 year old that appears to be coming into his prime. After being the first overall pick of the 2049 draft, he made it to the show in 2053 and struggled his first few seasons. Finally in 2056 he went 11-6 with a 3.87 ERA, and last season was 10-9 with a 2.69 ERA. This year he's 5-4 with a 3.39 ERA and looking to make back-to-back All-Star games.
4. Speaking of the game, the 80th Midsummer Classic will be on Friday, July 19th at Old Port Park in Portland, Maine. Voting is underway as 21 year old Chase 'Havoc' Calhoun leads the Domestic, while 33 year old Neall Rabah leads the Import. This would be Rabah's seventh time to play in the All-Star game, while obviously the first for the rookie sensation Calhoun. This past week he did struggle though as he hit .231 against Denver and New York. His average dropped significantly to a 'feeble' .396, and the dream for .400 appears to be fading away. He still leads second place (Brad 'Scooter' Pendolino) by 45 points though, so we'll cut him some slack.
5. What's on tap? This is a great week for series as more than a few top teams get to square off. First up Seattle gets to see what they are made of when they travel south to LAD, then east to New York. The Pilots are tied with LAD and Phoenix for the Bock lead, while the Cyclones have a 3.5 game lead in the Stout. We also get to see division long-time rivals Baltimore and Washington square off. They are separated by only a game as Washington took the first series two games to one. Finally we get New Orleans at Maine to end the week. The first place Voodoo against the first place Guides. Yes we know, Maine would be in the sixth place in the Lager, but first place is first place. Streak wise Seattle has won five in a row, New Orleans has won four in a row, Asher Kappler (SYR) has a 17 game hitting streak, Jarrett Shaneyfelt (MAI) has scored in seven straight games, and Rahjon Anderson (SEA) has won eight straight decisions.
