The Rum Runners continue their assault on the rest of the league as they go 5-1 and push their record to a leagues best 60-29. Meanwhile the poor Voodoo, who sit at 51-40 (and would have the division lead in the Bock and Ale) are already 10 games back. Around the rest of the league seven teams went 4-2, while nine teams went 2-4. Some team leaders over the interleague week: Pittsburgh scored 37 runs (IND 12), Carolina hit 12 home runs (IND/MAI 2), Dallas swiped 10 bases (PAW/BAT 0), Windy City allowed only 16 runs (PIT 39), and opponents hit .202 off of Wilmington (DEN .330).

Performance of the Week
P Joel Sawyer - We had a perfect game in 2044, then one in 2055. To have another less than a year later is quite a feat as Sawyer tossed the 15th perfect game in BLB history on July 16th against Indy. Sawyer faced 27 batters, got eight to ground out, six to fly out, and struck out the other 10. In the end the Blues won 7-0, and Sawyer moved to 5-4 with a 3.77 ERA on the season. On an interesting side note Sawyer was drafted second overall by Batavia in 2044, two days before Jamie Stivers threw his perfect game against the Dinos.
Prospect of the Week
P Shawn Watson - Toronto had quite the draft just by grabbing Brian Wheat with the top overall pick. The might have hit another home run though with Watson, who was the first pick of the second round. The 17 year old played for Huntington Beach for four seasons and had a 145 ERA+ during his time there. So far in five Rookie League starts he's 3-0 with a 0.75 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 659 ERA+.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. It's All-Star week and Evan Turner (CAR) and Damon Casebier (SDR) still lead their respective leagues in voting. Some potential first time All-Stars leading the ballots are: 1B Andy Dillon (WAS), SS Owen Dooley (WAS), CF Clarke Cunningham (DEN), Ty Dec (WC), 1B Burgess 'Nuke' Nalivkin (TOR), and Jordy 'Smug' Wovchanoff (NO). The game location is in New York this year as the players will be competing at Kennedy Field at Metropolitan Stadium.
2. Congrats to Melchior Werth and Colby Hullinger for reaching significant milestones this past week. The 36 year old Werth, drafted 6th overall in 2037, smacked his 400th career home run on July 14th against Toronto. He is the 63rd player in the history of the league to do so. Meanwhile on the same day the 38 year old Hullinger, drafted 3rd overall in 2035, knocked in his 1500th RBI against Syracuse. He is the 27th player in the history of the league to do so. Werth is a 2x Stout Slugger, 6x All-Star, and 5x Designated Driver. Those are HoF potential award numbers. Meanwhile Hullinger's award case puts almost everyone in league history to shame. He has four Stout Sluggers, and is a 10x All-Star, 9x Designated Driver, and 3x DWI winner.
3. The Bats are 60-31 and lead the league with a +107 run differential. Santo Domingo is 60-29 and is second with a +88 differential, while Pittsburgh is a paltry 47-44 but still comes in third at +80. The Millers went 3-3 this past week with wins of 6-5, 4-3, and 8-3. Meanwhile they had losses of 4-7, 5-10, and 10-11. Currently their -6 PYT leads the league, and they are second in runs scored and home runs, but when you can't stop the other team from scoring it doesn't mean a whole lot. On the other side of life Philly is last with a -120 R/D, followed by Montreal at -90 and Toronto at -77. California meanwhile is the only team with a losing record (43-48) and positive run differential (+20). They are the opposite of the Millers as they have allowed the 5th fewest runs in the league, but they are in the bottom half of the league when it comes to offense. That is probably why long time hitting coach Johnny Gillpatrick got the axe this past week.
4. With the season more than halfway done we still have a few records that have a chance to be broke. Benjamin Guy (PIT) is on pace for 263 hits, which would break Jaime Rush's mark of 251 set in 2028. Bailey Fedor (WAS) is on pace for 62 saves, which would break Marco Rosaro's record of 57 set back in 2023. Finally Charlie Spence (CAR) is on pace to break his own strikeout record of 360 that he set last season. He's currently on pace for an unheard of 376 K's. The 300+ strikeout mark has been broken only seven times in the history of the league, with Christian Vines doing it three times, Spence doing it twice, and David Rumsey and Ed Carroll doing it once each.
5. What's on tap? Well besides the All-Star game we have a few fun series in Denver at Seattle (are the Bulls for real), Indy at Hartford (1-4 in the Ale is separated by two games), and Windy City at LAD (1-6 in the Bock is separated by six games). Streak wise Hartford has won four in a row, and Philly has lost four in a row. Meanwhile Julian Ludin (WAS) and Benjamin Guy (PIT) have 17 game hitting streaks, Mason Gilbert (PIT) has scored in seven straight games, and Parker Lee (WAS) has homered in three straight games.
