The Dinos are making a run against as they go 6-1 on the week and shoot up to second in the ELO rankings. With a four game sweep of NYC, and taking two of three from Denver, they have now built a 6.5 game lead in the Bock while putting up the best record in baseball. Other good weeks were Syracuse, California, Washington, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. That would be four playoff teams and the Millers, who are now 54-66 and will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2048. On the other side of life Toronto and New York went 0-7 for the ugly unicorn of the week. The Canadians have caught up to the Muckdogs in the race for the first overall pick next season. Meanwhile NYC has lost 11 straight.

Performance of the Week
P Chandler Magnuson - In the rarest of baseball feats, the Kodiak hurler threw the 14th perfect game in BLB history on August 13th against the Bulldogs. Nine innings, no hits, no runs, no walks, no errors, and an impressive 15 strikeouts on 132 pitches. The 28 year old was a third round pick in 2044, and has been with California his entire career. Last season he was moved to the bullpen, where he pitched in 54 games and put up an impressive 2.3 WAR and 147 ERA+. This season though he's back as a starter, and coming into this game he was 4-7 with a 3.78 ERA. Magic was in the air though for both Magnuson and the 42k+ in attendance that got to witness it.
Prospect of the Week
DH Jim 'Barber' Mjima - Signed by New York out of Nigeria for $5m in 2050, Mjima is now ranked the 32nd overall prospect in the land. At 6'5 he is a sweet swinging lefty that scouts project to have plus power someday. At 21 years old he's currently in A ball where in 102 games he's hitting .272 with 19 HRs and 75 RBIs. The Cyclones are in the midst of that double digit losing streak, but with guys like 'Barber' coming up in the system the future is bright.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. It was a week for pitchers in the BLB. Magnuson and his perfect game have gotten all the press rightfully so, but Baltimore's Oliver Lanham put up the second best performance of the season on August 11th against Carolina. Over nine innings he allowed only one hit, no runs, walked one, and struck out 15. The walk came in the 2nd inning, while the hit was a double by Parker Capalbo in the 3rd. After that he went K, K, K, FO, GO, K, K, K, GO, FO, FO, K, FO, K, K, K, GO, GO. Lanham was an 8th round pick in 2045 who is in his third season with the Bulldogs. On the season he's now 10-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 118 ERA+. Little did he know though that two days later he would get one-upped by Magnuson and his perfect game.
2. Congrats to Martin Hoffman who joined the elite 2500+ K club yesterday against Denver. Over 8.1 innings pitched he struck out eight, which not only got him into the club but moved him up to 44th all-time. The 33 year old is having a down year at 8-13, but he's been solidly consistent over his entire career. The 4x All-Star and 2047 DL Pale Ale winner also helped lead New Orleans to victory in the 2045 Brewmasters Cup when he went 4-2 with a 2.84 ERA in the postseason.
3. In a surprising move at the beginning of last week the Snappers went out and acquired slugger Beaumont Sanchez from Pittsburgh. The irony of the situation was that Syracuse was in town visiting the Millers for a three game series. Sanchez was actually notified a few hours before the game, and he simply cleaned out his locker and walked over to the visitors locker room. After getting his new uniform he proceeded to play in all three games against his old teammates. In the first two games he was still slightly in shock and managed just one hit. In the third game though he had two hits, including a 3-run home run that gave Syracuse a 4-2 lead. He then flew with his new team to Wilmington where he hit another home run and drove in six over the four game series. On the season he's now hitting .277 with 30 HRs and 89 RBIs.
4. We hoped for some good division races coming down the stretch, but this past week put some space between first and second in all four of them. In the Ale the Snappers lead by six, in the Lager the Drillers lead by 5.5, in the Stout the Bats lead by 6.5, and in the Bock the Dinos lead by 6.5. Per the playoff odds LAD actually has the lowest chance to win the division out of those four, and they still sit at 83.3%. In the Import the wildcard race is down to Windy City and Carolina. The Blues are at 99.5%, and the Tobs are at 0.5%. We have seen some strange things in 77 seasons in the BLB, but that is going to be a hard one for the Tobs to make happen. Meanwhile in the Domestic it appears we might get some wildcard drama. As of now there are seven teams in the running for the four wildcard spots. Even Hartford at 56-65 has over a 5% chance of getting in.
5. What's on tap? How about a battle of the Domestic League wildcard teams this week. To start off the week we get Maine at Pawtucket, and Wilmington at New Orleans. To finish the week we get Santo Domingo at Indy. Over in the Import there is a fun series as Seattle travels to Los Angeles. Who will out-defense the other? No one gets more out their team than the LAD GM, but Seattle is 5-1 against the Dinos this season. They meet one more time in late September but if the Pilots want to win the Bock a sweep would go a long way in helping that cause.
