  • The 2055 Daily Keg - Week 3

    04/26/2055

We took a week off but we are back and better than ever, well maybe not ever but we are back. This past week we saw Seattle and Pittsburgh go shooting up the rankings as they each posted the happy unicorn by going 7-0. The Pilots swept Batavia and LAD, while the Millers swept Hartford and Wilmington. Seattle has now won 10 straight and leads the Bock by two games over Windy City. While some swept, others wept...mainly Wilmington, Batavia and Denver who all went 1-6. Never fear though, with 140 games (or so) to go, there is still a long season ahead.

    Performance of the Week

RF Justin Knight - The 23 year old is already in his third full season for the Exports and is looking to make his first All-Star game this season. This past week against Pawtucket he showed his potential when he smacked four hits, one home run, and drove in seven during an 11-4 victory. On the season he's now hitting .257 with 5 HRs and 17 RBIs. He was the second overall pick in the 2052 draft and Montreal would really love to see a breakout season.

    Prospect of the Week

LF Tommy Olson - The soon to be 18 year old had quite a HS career and capped it off with an outstanding senior season. This year he hit .384 with 27 HRs, 49 RBI's and he was selected to his second HS All-Star game. Scouts think he has all the tools needed to make a major impact in the BLB down the road.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The Wildcats made big news last week when they traded for Batavia star Zeke Lebron. The 3x All-Star and 2052 Stout Slugger is only 29, and Wilmington fans are excited to see what he can do. He was the 13th overall pick of the 2042 draft and helped Batavia win the 2050 championship. In 2052, his Stout Slugger year, he almost become the first member to join the 50/50 club when he hit .283 with 47 HRs, 116 RBI's, and a whopping 78 stolen bases.

    2. Cory 'Boy Scout' Petit is back in the BLB and we for one are thrilled to see New Orleans give him another chance. After being both the Stout Slugger and New Brew in 2052, he fell out of favor with management after a subpar 2053 season. In 2054 he hit .254 to start the year and ended up playing down in AAA for the rest of the season. This year though 'Boy Scout' is back in the bigs and over 15 games is hitting .364/.391/.591 with 2 HRs and 9 RBIs. We won't ordain him as Comeback Player of the Year quite yet, but we are pulling for him.

    3. It might be too early to talk about pitching and defense...or at least defense...but we don't care. Three weeks in and Hartford has already built a +5.84 ZR thanks to solid fielding at every position. On the other side of life Batavia is already at -12.35 ZR with only 1B Bonzi Mendoza on the plus side this year. Last year it was LAD who took the crown when they finished the year with a +57.51 ZR, while Carolina came in last with a -47.23 ZR. Considering the Tobs were an extra inning home run away from winning the Brew, I guess defense can be overrated.

    4. Its like days of old in Syracuse. The Snappers are 12-7, and Dominique Graham is hitting bombs. He currently is tied for the Domestic lead with seven, and he's on pace to hit 60 out of the park this year. We don't think he'll get quite there, but it's still fun to see. The 38 year old signed a 2-year deal with Syracuse this off-season, which was the team he played for from 2040 to 2048. The only year he didn't go to the All-Star game during that stretch was 2046. Since then he's played for Maine, Toronto, Pittsburgh, and Dallas. Welcome home.

    5. What's on tap? This week we'll be watching Indy at Pawtucket (are the Clowns for real?), LAD at Windy City (6-6 vs each other last season), and Seattle at Baltimore (can anyone beat the Pilots?). Streak-wise Seattle has won 10 straight, Pittsburgh seven straight, and Dallas six straight. Individual streaks have Parker Lee (WAS) hitting safely in 19 straight games and starter Paycen Bemis (SEA) winning nine consecutive games.
