    The Brewski's

The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 15th Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.

    Player of the Year

2B Julian 'Skeeter' Ludin, WAS - He finally lasted the entire season without getting hurt, and ended up putting up Stout Slugger numbers. The 28 year old played in 149 games, had a career high 650 at bats, and hit .346/.385/.517 with 11 HRs, 66 RBIs, and 84 SBs. He also started 131 games at second base where he only had eight errors. The second round pick from 2043 is now 29 years old and has turned into a 3x All-Star, 3x DD, and 2x BLB champion.

RF Benjamin 'Jailhouse' Guy, PIT - When he was drafted in the 1st round of the 2044 draft, the Pittsburgh GM went on record and stated, "we hope Guy to be the next RJ Kapper". Well last season it finally came true as he hit .377 with an OBP of .411, both which led the league. For how far ahead of everyone else he was, Ludin finished second in batting average at .346. Hall of Fame member RJ Kapper's lifetime average was .335, Guy is currently in his 7th season and his is .332.

    Pitcher of the Year

P Paycen Bemis, SEA - All though he didn't get the Pale Ale, the vote had to be close. Bemis was nearly unhittable in 2054 when he went 18-2 with a 1.88 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 212 ERA+. No one had a lower ERA, and no one had a higher ERA+. What's even more remarkable is the year prior he was 9-11 with a 4.06 ERA.

(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily first base)

CF Jaret Foley, DAL - After winning it in 2052, Foley had 406 total chances in 2053, and committed one single error. In 2054 though he made a promise to get back on the horse and in 387 total chances once again was error free. Not only is he one of the best defensive centerfielders in the game, but he hit .294 with 6 HRs and 64 RBIs while swiping 63 bases.

    Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)

C Taylor Allison, SEA - Two seasons ago 'Funky Cold' Magana led the league with a 34.2%, well in 2054 Allison gunned down opponents at a 34.4% clip. All in all 93 runners tried to test him, and 32 had to make the long lonely shuffle back to the dugout after being called out. He was drafted by Seattle in 2048, made it to the BLB in 2051, but didn't start playing regularly until 2053. He's highly respected in the clubhouse, and his ability behind the plate and his knowledge of the game more than make up for his average arm.

    2030 winner: Micah Gordon, WIL
2031 winner: Ian 'Pickles' James, SDR
    2032 winner: Landon McClelland, PHI
    2033 winner: Tristan Logan, SEA

    2053 winner: Dudley Magana, PHI

    Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
    (
Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)

LF Kyle 'Salesman' Olmsted, DAL - Ignore the Roadrunner jersey as he was a Dallas Driller last season, and during that season he was a menace on the basepaths. In 54 attempts for stealing a base he was successful a whopping 50 times, for a 92.6% success rate. Not bad for a 36 year old who went to his 7th All-Star game last season and was a IL Stout Slugger a decade ago in Philly.

2030 winner: CF Pat Welch, BAT
2031 winner: LF Akiyuki Kimura, MAI
2032 winner: RF R.J. Kapper, PIT

2052 winner: CF Rice Mesyan, SEA
2053 winner: CF Ryan De Faria, WC

    Ludacris Award
    (
Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

RF Zak Matiku, PHO - He actually tied Jaxon Neal the previous year at 24 HP, and should have been declared the winner since he had fewer at bats. This season he tied Pittsburgh's Burgess 'Nuke' Nalivkin with 20, and since we are striving to make right what once went wrong congratulations to Matiku. Once upon a time he was an IAFA from Cameron, and Toronto signed him for an $8,120,000 bonus in 2043. He was a top 50 prospect in the league, but injuries soon derailed a promising career. He was traded to Phoenix in 2050, and true to form fractured his hand just a month later. Since then he's been holding onto a spot in the BLB as long as he can, and being beaned frequently is one of those methods.

2053 winner: 1B Jaxson Neal, MAI

    Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

LF Rodrick Madhubuti, PAW - Johnnie Lease did everything possible to three-peat as his SO% was a whopping 40.3%, but Rodrick 'Swing For the Fences' Madhubuti was able to one up him. In only 199 plate appearances he struck out 81 times. Therefore his 40.7 SO% gave him the title. Discovered in the Ivory Coast by Syracuse in 2043, he was traded to Pawtucket in 2052, and has now become a full-time starter. Like the DK mentioned he might hit .225 this season, while also smacking 45 home runs.

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

1B James 'Turf' Goebel, DEN - Foust got hurt two years ago, allowing Edwards to end his reign. Last season Foust was once again 'homerless' in 118 hits, but was felled by the injury bug again. So on came the Bulls 'Turf' to take the title. Goebel played in 154 games, racked up 185 hits, and not one of them went over the outfield wall. With Foust once again injured and out for the season, Goebel stated he will do everything he can to make his now teammate and mentor proud.

2053 winner: 2B Vin Edwards, BAL

    Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Theodore Blume, PIT - Two years ago he smacked 19 batters with his balls and he vowed to fine tune his control. So after spending his off-season working on it, he once again smacked 19 more batters in 2054. To be fair to Blume he did pitch eight more innings in 2054 than he did in 2053...so we suppose he got a little better.

    2030 winner: Nate Bettis, PHO
    2031 winner: Pat Burgess, PIT
2032 winner: Robby 'Bruiser' McEvoy, BAL

    The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

2B Devon Keen, BAT - With LDD now retired the DK actually had to crunch some numbers on this award for the first time in years. In the end it was Keen who was the winner, as poor Batavia paid him a cool $12,000,000 and he rewarded them by in107 games hitting .167 with a -1.2 WAR. The even worse news for the Muckdogs is they still have him under contract for 2055 ($13m) and 2056 ($14m).
