07/27/2054
Baltimore is the king of the week (record wise) as they go 5-1 to move to an even 50-50 on the season. The Bulldogs are one of the worst hitting teams in the league, but somehow they've put together three straight winning months. Go Dogs Go. The other big weeks were Carolina and New York who each went 5-2. The Cyclones have thrown in the towel for 2054, but Carolina is alive and well. They are now just four games behind the back-to-back champ Bats. On the other side of life Phoenix went 1-6 while Seattle went 2-5. Sounds like the dinner table might be quiet tonight for 'Meatloaf Monday'.

Performance of the Week
3B Wyatt 'Snowball' Meeks - Montreal doesn't have a lot going for them this season, except for their dashing good looks. On Saturday against the Maine Guides, Meeks went a perfect five for five while also hitting for the cycle, the second time someone has gone cycling this season. Hw singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit a solo-shot in the 7th and hit an RBI triple in the 8th. On the season the 36 year old is hitting .315/.339/.500 with 5 HRs and 27 RBIs in 51 games.
Prospect of the Week
C Kyle Dodiry - We missed it but on July 7th against Austin, Dodiry smashed not one, not two, not three, but four home runs. In five at bats he had four hits, all out of the park, while driving in six during a 13-8 victory. Since then the former third round pick has been moved up to A ball where he's hitting .278 with 1 HR and 6 RBIs in 10 games.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Seattle centerfielder Rice Mesyan smacked another hit yesterday, giving him a 21 game hitting streak. He's having a career year at the plate and is hitting .332/.354/.461 with 32 SBs and 34 RBIs in 91 games. The real news though out of Seattle is that Richie 'Powder' van Luik announced his retirement at seasons end. The 38 year old has played for the Pilots for 18 seasons and has decided to sail off into the sunset. A 6x All-Star, and 2039 Stout Slugger, van Luik is the all-time stolen base leader by 177 over Preston Capps. Lifetime he's a .325/.396/.459 hitter with 466 doubles, 817 RBIs, 2723 hits, and 934 stolen bases.
2. Dwan Tamarovsky is back, and better than ever...well almost. So far in two AAA rehab starts he's 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA, but to be fair he hasn't pitched since September of 2053. The 4x All-Star, and 2052 Pale Ale winner, is still impressing scouts though with his stuff and he could propel the Dinos into the playoffs. At only 28 years old the question now is what do the Dinos do? Tamarovsky is set to become a free agent after this season and his agent has made it known he's expecting $20m+ a season. Do the Dinos rolls the dice, or do they trade him while they can? Throw in the fact that LAD is projected to end up $23m in the red after this season, and well who knows what the future for Dwan holds.
3. The 'Brutal Bock' is back and better than ever. Five of the six teams have an amazing 52 wins or more, and they are all at 50% or higher for the playoff odds. If Carolina wasn't sitting at 97.5% and only getting better, it would have ended up Washington plus the Bock (mostly) for the Import playoffs. The odd team out is poor Phoenix. The Roadrunners are getting beat up by the Bock, especially the top two. So far this season Seattle and California are 15-0 when playing against them. Denver must be jealous as they have only played Phoenix three times, and taken two of them. It bodes well for the Bulls they have nine games in the season series remaining though.
4. The Cyclones might have thrown in the towel this season, but they are sitting pretty with the #1 farm system in the league. At 174 points they are 54 ahead of second place New Orleans. With centerfielder Alexander Charter leading the way they have four other batters in the top 100. They also have an unbelievable seven pitchers in the top 100, with four of them in the top 40. When you have 12% of the top 100 prospects in the league that's a pretty bright future.
5. What's on tap? This week we get Seattle at Los Angeles, Santo Domingo at Pawtucket, and Denver at Washington. Steak wise Carolina and Baltimore have won four straight, Phoenix has lost five straight, Julian 'Skeeter' Ludin (WAS) has an 18 game hitting streak, and Charlie Spence (CAR) hasn't lost in 10 starts and has won nine straight decisions.
