The Brewski's
The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 14th Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over the season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.
Player of the Year
P Jannero Peter, BAL - Our first ever pitcher for the Player of the Year goes to Peter. When you start out the season 17-0, and end up 19-3 with a 1.96 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 211 ERA+...well that is a pretty good season. When you were the 158th overall pick of the 2045 draft, the story gets even sweeter. At only 25 years old the Canadian from Vancouver, BC looks like he could even get better. A scary thought for the rest of the league.

Hitter of the Year
3B Jett Speer, DAL - Speer's previous six years in the league he had a 0.8 WAR combined, and in 2052 for Dallas he hit .217/.280/.347 with 9 HR and 27 RBI. Then came the off-season when hitting coach Dave Wescott asked him about his eyesight. After going to the optometrist and realizing the ball wasn't blurry because it was "just going fast", things changed for the better. Dramatically. By the end of 2053 Speer had hit .299/.389/.551 with 38 HR, 108 RBI and a 5.7 WAR.

Pitcher of the Year
Cayden Wittmeyer, SEA - Obviously this award could go to Peter, but we didn't want him to get a big head, so we went with Wittmeyer. Cast off by Maine a few years back for never living up to his potential, he finally lived up to his potential. This past year he posted career highs in wins (17), ERA (2.55), WHIP (0.95), WAR (4.7), and ERA + (161). He also took the Pilots to just one win away from their second Brewmasters Cup appearance in three years.

Rookie of the Year
LF Evan Turner, CAR - There hasn't been a rookie like Turner in a long, long time. The 19 year old turned 20 just a few months ago, but being a teenager didn't slow him down from lighting the league on fire. By the end of the season he had hit .297/.348/.577 with 37 HR and 104 RBI. He was the first overall pick of the 2051 draft and lived up to the hype to say the least. If he stays healthy the numbers he could put up by the time his career is over could be all-timers.

CF Erick Hartman, BAL - A fifth round pick in 2044 by Baltimore, Hartman has been in the league several years but never eclipsed 100 games played. This season he appeared in 124, starting the majority of those in center field. He also had 292 total chances in the field, and never committed one error.

Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)
C Dudley Magana, PHI - 'Funky Cold' Magana has one of the best arms in the league and it showed time in and time out this past season. Over the course of the year 114 runners tried to steal on him, and he threw out 39 of them. His 34.2 RTO percentage was tops on the season. The soon to be 34 year old is heading off to free agency, but when you have that arm we're sure a few teams will come calling.

(Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)
CF Ryan De Faria, WC - In 49 attempts he was successful 42 times, as his 86% on the season was good enough to earn him this prestigious award. He was discovered by Dallas scouts back in 2041, traded to Toronto for a fourth round pick in 2051, became a FA in 2052, and signed by the Blues this preseason. He ended up starting 150 games in center and was an amazing defensive pickup. Alas he hit only .217, but for a guy making 950k Windy City got a lot out of him!

Ludacris Award
(Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)
1B Jaxson Neal, MAI - After not getting enough at bats last season, and rededicating himself to taking more balls to his body, Neal came roaring back in 2053. He was beaned an amazing 24 times, or seven more than second place. He's now been beaned 264 times in his career which is third all-time. The record is 292 and reports out of Maine state Neal has been getting in the batting cages, and standing directly in front of the plate, to prepare himself for his final black and blue push into history.

Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)
2B Johnnie Lease, CAR - Last year he struck out an amazing 51.7% of the time while hitting .141, but Lease worked hard all off-season. He showed it off this season by hitting .185 and only striking out 44.1% (worst in the league) of the time. He is an amazing fielder though as his +7.6 ZR at second base points out. Is it worth it? Who knows anymore.

2052 winner: 2B Johnnie Lease, CAR
Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)
2B Vin Edwards, BAL - The guy is a vacuum in the field who can play 2B/3B at a DWI level. He's also a hit machine, as his 162 hits translated to a .304 average this past season. Alas he is not a power machine as his 0 home runs means he took this award away from Josiah Foust. Did he really though? Foust had 118 hits when he got hurt in August, and once again zero home runs. We feel like a healthy Foust might have made a run at a three-peat, but alas we will never know.

2051 winner: 2B Josiah Foust, CAL
2052 winner: 2B Josiah Foust, CAL
Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)
P Theodore Blume, PIT - When you can throw a fastball 101 mph, and you lead the league in hit batsmen (19), that's a scary combo. The fact that Blume went 15-10 with a 2.91 ERA, and captured his 3rd Pale Ale, was more likely because opposing batters were afraid of being carted off the field on a stretcher.
2030 winner: Nate Bettis, PHO

2052 winner: P Cameron Haggard, PHI
The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)
LF Louie Dano Dasmarinas, CAR/SDR/TOR - The long saga is finally over. LDD has retired. This past season he earned a cool $23,000,000 while not playing a single inning in the BLB and only getting three total at bats in AA. His last at bat ever was actually in AA for Miramar. It was also his only at bat for the Mavericks. He got a hit and drove in a run, and when Miramar won the Lautering Trophy several months later, and even though LDD had been traded to Toronto and released, they gave him a ring. Sadly for LDD it was the second time he had 'won' a ring in his career, and both times he wasn't on the team when the final out was recorded. Happily for LDD he made just over $339 million during his career.
