  • The 2053 Daily Keg - Week 6

    05/19/2053

Even after going 4-2, everyone's favorite Pittsburgh team the Millers remain in the top spot. Shooting up the Power Rankings though all the way to second were the Seattle Pilots who won their ninth straight game. With sweeps of Maine and Hartford this past week they did the Ale dirty, moved to 23-15, and now have the top spot in the Bock. They also moved their PYT to -3, which makes Baltimore at -4 the unluckiest team in the league. I'm sure the Bulldogs fans are thrilled. The other top week was Dallas who went 5-1. The Drillers continue to add to their hot start and they now lead the Lager by 1.5 games. On the other side of life Maine, Hartford, Batavia and Philly all went 1-5. Sometimes you are the bat...sometimes you are the ball.

    Performance of the Week

P Martin Hoffman - The 31 year old turned in the 5th best pitching performance of the season on May 16th when he shut down the Dinos of Los Angeles. Over eight innings he allowed three hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out 11 in a 1-0 victory. On the season he's now 4-3 with a 2.47 ERA and 166 ERA+. Hoffman is a 3x All-Star who won the 2047 Pale Ale with New Orleans. He signed an eight year contract with Toronto after the 2050 season and has posted three straight winning seasons for them so far.

    Prospect of the Week

LF Andy Wulfeck - Drafted with the 18th overall pick by LAD last season he has turned into a potential star. Currently in A ball he won the Player of the Week the last two weeks, and is currently hitting .324/.431/.706 with 11 HR and 23 RBI in only 29 games. He's currently the 30th ranked prospect in the league but scouts think he could legitimately be playing in the BLB by seasons end.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Congrats to Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger and Judd Ramirez who each hit their 400th career home run this past week. Only 58 players in the history of the league have accomplished this feat and we give both of them a big round of applause. Hullinger was drafted 3rd overall in 2035 and has turned into one of the greatest players in league history. He has three Stout Sluggers to his name, to go along with eight All-Star appearances. Ramirez was a 2nd round pick in 2034, and although he's only been named an All-Star twice, he's had a very solid career and is beloved around the league by fans young and old due to his work ethic.

    2. On May 12th Santo Domingo and Los Angeles played a wild one. In a back and forth game that saw four lead changes, LAD scored in the 8th off of a throwing error to tie it up at six apiece. No one scored again until the bottom of the 19th inning. After two walks then an intentional walk, up stepped Josiah White for the Dinos. It was White's 10th at bat of the game, and on the second pitch he hit a 341 foot grand slam to end it. The final game time was 7 hours and 12 minutes. The game featured 16 runs, 35 hits, 25 runners left on base, and 12 pitchers used.

    3. Last season Drillers center fielder Jaret Foley hit .266 and put up a respectable +3.4 WAR thanks to his stellar defense (+12.4 ZR). This season Foley is hitting an astounding .404 with an OPS+ of 158, and a WAR of 2.3. He's on pace for a 9.3 WAR and even though we doubt he can keep up his torrid pace at the plate, he's become a complete player. At only 22 years old the Drillers have a potential starter for the next decade holding down the outfield.

    4. Time to check in on the only players over the age of 40 in the BLB...Pat 'Melody' Nunes. He sprained his ankle early in May and was put on the IL, but is expected back next week. So far he's hitting .310/.318/.643 with 4 HR and 6 RBI in only 16 games. As we mentioned earlier in the season he's currently fourth all-time in both home runs and hits. If he comes back and gets to play full-time, he has a very good shot of moving up to second all-time in home runs and third in hits by seasons end. It's hard to believe 'Melody' is still out there. He started his career with Phoenix back in 2032 after being the second overall pick of the 2026 draft.

    5. What's on tap? The two big match-ups we are looking forward to are California at Seattle to start the week, and Pawtucket at Dallas to end it. The red hot Pilots lead the Kodiaks by one game in the Bock as Seattle took the first series two games to one. The first two were one-run games and a split, with the rubber match going to Seattle when Cayden Wittmeyer shut out the Kodiaks 4-0. The Patriots and Drillers haven't met yet this season, but last season Pawtucket dominated them 9-2 in the regular season.
