  • The 2052 Daily Keg - Week 24

    09/23/2052

Washington goes 5-1 to shoot up the Power Ranking's to the #1 spot while they build an insurmountable nine game lead in the Stout. Congrats on another division title for the Bats. The best weeks though belonged to Batavia and Dallas who each went 6-1. Dallas is now tied with Pittsburgh for the final wildcard spot in the Domestic, while Batavia is holding off the hard charging Dinos for the final wildcard spot in the Import. On the other side of life Philly went 0-6 as apparently even HAL short circuits.

    Performance of the Week

SS Darius Brown - The 26 year old is one of the top defensive third basemen in the league, but plays shortstop for the Drillers. He isn't known for his bat, but on September 19th against Indy he had two home runs, six RBI, and scored twice in an 11-1 victory. It was good enough for the 16th best hitting performance of the season, and on the year Brown is now hitting .269 with 11 HR and 59 RBI.

    Prospect of the Week

P Carter Byars - He looks a little older but Byars is actually just 20 and was drafted 7th overall by Phoenix in this years draft. He started 11 games this year for the Oregon State Beavers, where he helped lead them to the NCAA title. He then went to Belle River where he started 11 more games, for a grand total of 115 total innings. His body couldn't keep up though and he hurt his neck on August 23rd, and hasn't pitched since. He went from the #91 to #77 prospect in the league this season, and scouts think he has the potential to be one of the most pinpoint pitchers in the league someday.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. On the 18th Batavia's Gage Hay went cycling, only the third time that has happened this season. To be fair he got eight at bats since the game went 17 innings, and in the end it was a loss...Batavia's only one of the week. The following day Zeke Lebron smashed three home runs for the Muckdogs as they won 5-0 against Seattle. Lebron now has 44 home runs and 71 stolen bases on the season. We have never seen anyone in the league with his sort of speed and power. He's on pace for 47 home runs, but he's been hot at the plate with 6 HR in his last 11 games. He's knocking on the 50/50 club front door...can he pull it off?

    2. Seattle's lead over California is down to just two games as California now has a 25% chance of winning the division per the playoff odds. If California would have beat Washington the last two games they played, where they lost by three total runs, they would be all tied up! After Seattle went 21-9 last month, and California went 13-15, nobody saw this coming. Both teams have 10 games remaining, and the Kodiak's have seven at home with opponents that have a .409 win percentage, the lowest in the league. Stranger things have happened.

    3. Cory 'Boy Scout' Petit is en fuego. Not only does he have a 27 game hitting streak going, but the last 12 games he's hit .522 and raised his season average to an astounding .393. That is tied for the 5th highest in BLB history and he now has a long shot at .400. Not bad for a guy who will probably win New Brew and Stout Slugger in the Domestic. To be fair to the other rookies he is 25 years old, and he barely cracks the Top 100 of youngest hitters in the majors, but he is the front runner for the Stout Slugger and there's no denying that.

    4. The Bats have more than likely secured the 24th spot in the 2053 draft. Washington's 'average' wins according to the odds report has them at a league leading 99 wins. Meanwhile Carolina has secured the 1st pick in next years draft as they are on pace to win just 52 games. Considering the Tobs have the top ranked pitching prospect, top ranked hitting prospect, and the third overall system in the league...well things are looking up. Look for Caolina to start turning things around in the next few seasons and possibly win a title by the end of the decade.

    5. What's on tap? This week's top match-ups are Seattle at Philly for four games, Batavia at Baltimore for three games, and Dallas at Maine for four games. Four of those teams are in the playoffs, while Batavia is trying to hold on and Dallas is doing all they can to pass the Millers. Streak wise the Pilots and Freedom have lost six in a row, and LAD and Dallas have won five in a row.
