  • The 2052 Daily Keg - Week 18

    08/05/2052

After Philly goes 6-1 owners around the league are searching for old Tandy's in order to hire HAL as their new General Manager. The Freedom went 20-6 in July, are 3-1 so far in August, and have a 1.5 lead over Washington in the Stout. Not to be outdone those pesky Bats (at least to Philly fans) went 5-1, while Indy and Seattle went 5-2. The Clowns have climbed all the way to second in the Ale, while Seattle has a 1.5 game lead over California in the Bock. On the other side Phoenix, Batavia, and Baltimore all went 2-5.

    Performance of the Week

CF Dave Regan - The 25 year old has become a star...literally as he was just selected to the All-Star team...for the Kodiaks. This past week on August 1st against Batavia he blasted two home runs and drove in five as Cali won 7-6. On the season he's now hitting .312/.367/.546 with 15 HR and 46 RBI, while posting a +1.2 ZR in center field. Originally drafted by the Bats in the 5th round of the 2045 draft, he was traded to California in 2049 as part of a Washington salary dump. Sounds like a dump the Bats might want back.

    Prospect of the Week

P Calvin 'Swampy' Parker - Sporting the old Windy City uniforms now used by AA Rockford, 'Swampy' currently plays for AAA Des Plaines after just getting called up. So far he's 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA, 19 K's and only six walks. The 24 year old was a second round pick by the Blues in 2048 and could be making his BLB debut by the end of the season if things work out right.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. July is over as time keeps on marching. As we mentioned up top, the Freedom had the best record during the month by going 20-6. Toronto went 18-8 to keep the DK's prediction hopes alive, while Washington and Baltimore went 17-8. Meanwhile poor Carolina went 5-19, while Montreal and Batavia went 6-19. The Tobs did lead the month though in home runs with 40, but it only translated to 93 runs, third worst in the league. Some other team leaders: Dallas swiped 57 bases (Den 4), New Orleans hit .310 (Pho .208), Seattle allowed only 79 runs (Bat 150), and opponents hit .207 off California (Wil .303).

    2. Cory 'Boy Scout' Petit got some love last week in the Daily Keg, and then a few days later he was named the Domestic Batter of the Month and the Domestic Rookie of the Month. Save some trophies for some of the other players 'Boy Scout'. Philly also pulled off a double win, but sadly it took them two players to do it. Import Pitcher of the Month went to reliever Tyshon Guerrero who went 2-1 with 13 saves and a 3.78 during the month. Meanwhile the Rookie of the Month went to starter Hayden 'Jailhouse' Watkins who went 3-1 with a 3.03 ERA.

    3. Elias 'Clapper' Owen stole seven bases last week and he now has 76 on the season. He actually has more than five teams in the BLB, while there are three other teams within four of him. He's on pace now for a whopping 115 stolen bases this season, which would shatter the record of 96 he set last season. It looks like we are in a new age of base thieves, and 'Clapper' is by far one of the best we have ever seen. When you have a slash line of .339/.388/.439 and you've only struck out 51 times on the year, well you are going to get a lot of chances to steal a base.

    4. Welcome back Seth 'Icebox' Cobb...well in two weeks that is. The 35 year old, who is a 3x All-Star and 2045 BLB champion with New Orleans, hurt his shoulder back in April during a win against Indy. He's been rehabbing ever since and is expected back for the stretch run. The Drillers are currently 53-52, and in second place in the Lager. They would love nothing more than to see him back on the mound by early September. Cobb has nine double digit win seasons, and for his career he is 146-90 with a 3.28 ERA and 123 ERA+.

    5. What's on tap? It's interleague and we get a treat as Pawtucket travels to Seattle, while Dallas travels to Washington. Streak wise Seattle has won five in a row, 'Boy Scout' has scored in 11 straight games, and Cameron Marry (CAR) has homered in four straight games.
