  • The 2052 Daily Keg - Week 8

    6/03/2052

    The Bats are back at it, as even with a 4-2 week they take over the top of the Power Rankings. The best week though belonged to California who went 5-1. The Kodiaks are now 25-27 as their up and down season continues. Another top week was Phoenix who went 5-2. Like California they are also sticking around in the Bock at 24-28. On the flip side New York went 1-6, while Dallas and Carolina went 1-5. The poor Tobs managed to score 11 runs in six games as their dreadful season continues. Considering they have the top system in the league though, and another top pick in the upcoming draft, the future appears to be bright.

    2) Philadelphia Freedom (112.4, +)
    3) Maine Guides (110.4, +)

    9) Indianapolis Clowns (94.7, ++)
    10) California Kodiaks (91.5, ++)

    Performance of the Week

    P Logan Totten - The 33 year old has been a career long Blue as he's played for Windy City since 2041. This week he showed he still has it against the Bulldogs when he faced them on May 31st. Over the course of eight innings he allowed no runs, one hit, and struck out 10 as the Blues won 1-0. On the season he's now 7-2 with a 3.05 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 128 ERA+. He hasn't been an All-Star since 2047 but this could be the year.

    Prospect of the Week

    P Moochie Cahn - With the Freedom bringing up the 6th overall prospect in the league this past week in Hayden 'Jailhouse' Watkins, they still have Cahn, the 2nd overall prospect, sitting in AAA. In 2045 he was discovered out of the baseball hotbed of Myanmar, and with five pitches, a 101 mph fastball, and the stamina to finish games he has become one of the top prospects in the game. When Cahn is called up the Freedom are going to have two 23 year old top of the rotation pitchers. Sounds like a recipe for success to us.

    Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The month of May recently ended as we take a quick look back. The top team in the league was the surprising Maine Guides, who went 20-8. They now lead the Ale as it appears their GM has turned the ship around. Seattle went 19-9, while Pawtucket and Washington went 19-10. The Bats lead the Stout, while Seattle has climbed back into second in the Bock after their slow start. Stat wise Indy scored 152 runs (Dal 85), Batavia hit 50 home runs (Tor 15), Batavia stole 61 bases (Paw 8), Seattle allowed only 91 runs (Wil 165), and opponents hit .224 against Washington (Tor .315).

    2. As we talked about previous, Hayden 'Jailhouse' Watkins made his BLB debut. In two starts he pitched 11.2 innings, allowed 2 runs, struck out 18, and walked only two. With him as the Freedom's new #1 it's going to make them even harder to beat. His 101 mph fastball is nearly impossible to hit, while his slider and change-up can buckle knees. Watkins was the 12th overall pick of the 2046 draft and we are excited to see what HAL does with him.

    3. With the 2052 BLB draft upcoming, that means that the high school, college, and Cape Cod leagues are finished. At the HS level the Chandler HS Wolverines won their first ever title after defeating the Northwestern Titans. They were led this year by junior outfielder Tony May, who hit .349 with 14 HR and 47 RBI and finished the year with a 169 OPS+. May projects to be a top pick in next years draft. In the NCAA it was a bitter 'Civil War' as the Oregon State Beavers defeated the Oregon Ducks to claim the Beavs fifth title. They finished the regular season 31-17 and had one of the top offenses in the league, led by junior Houston Yap and sophomore James Lester. Finally in the Cape Cod the Bourne Braves defeated the Brewster Whitecaps for the Braves ninth title since 1988.

    4. They are currently five teams in the Ale with a winning record, which makes sense of their Domestic counterpart the Lager having five losing teams. Our DK prediction to win the Brew, Toronto, is one of them at 21-31. Go Canadians Go! We have people betting serious money on the DK predictions and we don't want to disappoint. In the Import at least it's a little more balanced. The Stout has three above water, while the Bock has four under water. The good thing is the playoff odds still have 20 of the 24 teams in it. Sorry to fans of Wilmington, Toronto, Windy City and Carolina. We still have faith though that things can turn around for at least two of those teams.

    5. What's on tap? We get a fun match-up this week as Pawtucket travels to New Orleans. So far this season they are 2-2 against each other as Pawtucket hosted the first series. Both these teams are the juggernauts of the Domestic. The Patriots are first in batting average, earned run average, and starters earned run average. New Orleans is second in runs scored, earned run average, and starters earned run average. A possible DLCS preview? Streak wise the Cyclones have lost six in a row, the Patriots have lost four in a row, and Brian McCann (PAW) and Dante Adams (MAI) have won seven straight games.
