One week later and the Bats are no longer first as they have been leapfrogged by Toronto, California, and Pittsburgh. The Canadians and Millers each went 5-1, while the Kodiaks went 4-3. The Bats meanwhile went 4-2 yet managed to drop like a rock. The best week though belonged to Maine who went 6-1 with a four game sweep of Montreal. The Exports weren't complaining too much though as they are now second in the race for the #1 pick next season.

Performance of the Week
1B Pat 'Melody' Nunes - We're all but certain than Nunes has found the fountain of youth, or maybe it's the 'clear' and the 'cream' that he states a trainer started giving him a few seasons ago. Regardless the 42 year old turned in the 5th best hitting performance of the season against Wilmington on August 26th. In a 9-7 Canadians victory he had four hits, two home runs, drove in six, and scored three times. He's now hitting .300/.350/.533 with 25 HR and 84 RBI. Did we mention he's 42?
Prospect of the Week
RF Ronald Anderson - The second overall pick in this seasons draft is playing for the Death Valley Scorpions (SDR) in the Rookie League. This past week he hit a whopping six home runs and drove in 13 in only 25 at bats. In 58 games his slash line is .315/.404/.732 with 26 HR and 59 RBI. The 17 year old played the first part of the year in high school where he hit .284 with 17 HR and 38 RBI in only 40 games. A star has been born.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Pawtucket had a double digit division lead in May, but over the last four months the Millers have been chipping away at it. Now as we're entering September, the Patriots lead is only 5.5 games, which is now the smallest out of the four divisions. So far this August Pawtucket has gone 12-14 while Pittsburgh has gone 18-7. The biggest lead now belongs to the Bats who hold a 11 game edge over Baltimore. Meanwhile the Lager and Bock leaders, Toronto and California, each have 6.5 game leads.
2. The Roadrunners told two coaches this past week, HC Tom Spross and PC Jamie Marley, to hit the road. Reports state that both were called into the owners office last Tuesday and promptly told to clean out their lockers. In their place they have signed PC Chaz Haenlein, who helped lead Montreal to the playoffs from 2045-49, and HC Ernie Nickerson who comes from the Freedom's AA team.
3. The Dinos are all about the D...as they once again lead the league in total zone rating at +42.58. The league average is +12.80 so to say they are above average is even an understatement. Second place is California, who has always been about the D, while Seattle, Maine, and Washington round out the top five. Those five teams combined are 100 games over .500. On the bottom end is Indy at -28.83, followed by Montreal, Syracuse, Philly and Phoenix. Those four teams are currently 94 games under .500. It pays to be about the D!
4. This past week Wilmington claimed Erik Foley off Waivers from Phoenix. The 39 year old is near the end of the his career, but what a career it has been. Foley won 201 games, has been to eight All-Star games, was the 2040 Domestic Pale Ale, and helped lead New Orleans to the Brewmasters Cup in 2045. He's racked up over 14 years of major league service, but hasn't pitched in the BLB since 2049.
5. What's on tap? We get both leagues top dogs as Washington travels to California for four, while Toronto travels to Pawtucket for four. Both of these series are at the tail end of the week, so to kick off the week we get Denver at Seattle for three. The Bulls are fourth in the Bock at 70-56, while Seattle is third at 72-55. Both are near locks to make the playoffs, but the Pilots are looking for revenge after going 1-5 against Denver so far this season. Streak wise the Canadians, Millers, and Guides have won five straight, while Montreal and Carolina have lost five straight.
