  • The 2051 Daily Keg - Week 3

    05/01/2051

And we're back! It's been a minute since the Daily Keg has been around, but we've been having technical issues. After having our IT department scour the system we discovered we had the same problem as the Phoenix GM a few seasons back, the computer wasn't plugged in. Enough with the small talk though, let's move on to the season. The winner of last week was Pawtucket, who appears to be the winner of a lot of things lately. After going 6-1 the Patriots are now 17-2 and have an eight game lead on May 1st. Is the old Virginia GM back at their helm? The co-winner would be the Washington Bats who also went 6-1 with a four game sweep of Phoenix. Another nice week was Dallas who went 5-2. They now have a five game lead in the Lager, as them and the Patriots are the only two Domestic League teams with a winning record.

    Power Rankings

    1) Pawtucket Patriots (172.1, o)
    2) Washington Bats (149.0, o)
    3) Seattle Pilots (133.2, +)

    Performance of the Week

1B Jaxson Neal - On his fourth team in as many seasons, Neal is still an All-Star caliber first basemen and he showed it on April 27th against New York. In five at bats he had four hits, three of those which were home runs, drove in four, and scored five times in a 9-3 Kodiaks victory.

    Prospect of the Week

LF Evan Turner - With the 2051 BLB draft right around the corner, 17 year old Evan Turner looks like a top three pick. Just last week he smacked his 50th career High School home run, and before that he was selected to his second straight HS All-Star game. He's currently hitting .366/.460/.720 with 14 HR, 40 RBI and 5 SB in 40 games.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Should we just crown Pawtucket now? They have one of the highest Power Rankings we've seen in quite some time, are as mentioned 17-2, and are first in the Domestic in most of the pitching and hitting categories. Their playoff odds are already at 99.7% and it's May 1st. The year of the Patriots!

    2. Toronto's Abel 'Stumpy' Valley has a 25 game hitting streak going. Last season Toronto's Dane Jennings set a new Brewers League Baseball record when he successfully hit in 40 straight games, breaking RJ Kappers streak of 37 set in 2034. Can 'Stumpy' challenge Jennings? If not it's still quite the 1-2 punch to have. Valley and Jennings are currently both 28 years old and locked up for years to come. Can they be the challenge to Pawtucket's early season dominance?

    3. Former 2048 first pick Sage Emerson is 20 games into his BLB career and he's looking pretty good. So far he's hitting .240/.333/.520 with 5 HR, and 15 RBI. The 23 year old native Texan is already a fan favorite and extremely popular around town. He played his college ball at Oklahoma where he was a 2x All-Star and hit 64 total home runs. Last season he dominated AA and won the Outstanding Hitter and Platinum Stick Award.

    4. Richie 'Powder' van Luik is going to go from making $23,200,000 next season to $790,000 in 2053, and that's okay with him. The BLB All-time stolen base leader is a 6x All-Star, won the 2039 Stout Slugger, is the captain of the team, and wants nothing more than to bring a title to Seattle by slashing his salary. We also suppose that when you've made over $222m in your career that helps as well.

    5. What's on tap? This weeks premier match-up is Los Angeles at Baltimore, as the 13-7 Dinos travels across the country to the 12-8 Bulldogs. Since 2040 these teams have played 121 times in the regular season and Baltimore holds the advantage 62-59. Both teams are currently second in their respective divisions and we're excited to watch the four game series. Streak wise the Bats have won six in a row, while Baltimore, Miami, Seattle and Cali have all won four in a row. On the flip side Denver and Windy City have lost five straight.
