The 2050 Daily Keg - Week 11
2050/06/20
Hartford, Batavia, and Pawtucket continue to be the class of the BLB. All three teams boast well rounded teams that can easily out pitch or out hit, depending on the game, any opponent that happen to be facing on a given day. Rounding out the top five are California and Los Angeles, the two teams that appear to be fighting for supremecy in the Bock again this year. After announcing a selloff a few weeks ago, Carolin brings up the rear in the Power Rankings and appears to be on the verge of a rebuild.

Performance of the Week
Joel Sawyer - This week featured plenty of games that show up in the most notable games of the season. With a game score of 93 and ranking as the 8th best game of the year, Batavia starter Joel Sawyer takes our top spot. In an 11-1 drubbing of Phoenix, the former 2nd overall pick allowed only two hits in 8 innings to go along with 11 strikeouts and only one walk. Phoenix batters were mostly helpless during the 106 pitch masterpiece.
Prospect of the Week
Devin Geertz - The BLB has really been struggling to produce solid two way catchers for a while now, and this year, SDR fans are hoping that rough is about to come to an end. With the 2nd overall pick in this year's draft, the Rum Runners took Yarmouth-Dennis collegiate catcher Devin Geertz. He has the potential to add power at the BLB level, but scouts are really drooling about his slick defensive skills and his keen batting eye that lead to a career 0.411 batting average in college.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The BLB had three players reach major milestones this week. The first was 36 year old Marco Taylor entering the 2 500 hit club. In the long history of the BLB only 45 players have reached this milestone. Originally drafted 3rd overall by Batavia in the 2031 draft, Taylor has since gone on to play for 6 teams. The milestone hit was a rocket double in the right centrefield gap which was Montreal's lone highlight in an 8-1 drubbing by Hatford.
2. The second BLB milestone this week was even more impressive. The BLB mercenary known as Pat 'Melody' Nunes cracked the 3 000 hit club. The 2nd overall pick in the 2026 draft became just the 15th member of one of the BLB's most exclusive clubs. His long career spans 11 teams and includes a Brew Title while playing for the Washington Bats in 2039. The memorable hit for one of the game's greatest sluggers actually turned out to be a broken bat groundball between first and second base, Not finished, Nunes cracked two more singles and tallied three RBI in his milestone game.
3. The final milestone is easily the most impressive. DH Robert Jessee joined the 600 home run club. How rare is this club? Three members (Jamie O'Hearn 612, J.D. Rice 609) are the only other members in this most exclusive club. With O'Hearn long retired, and Rice limping to the finish line of his career, it appears that Jessee will almost assuredly finish his career as the BLB's all time home run king. The 1st overall pick in the 2031 draft is on his 4th team and shows no signs of slowing down as he is currently on pace for 51 home runs this season!
4. Keeping with our theme, a milestone was achieved in Rookie Ball this week. Our game of the week takes us to Austin for a look at 2049 third round pick Noah Butler. After a solid, if unspectacular college career at Harwich, Kodiak fans were not expecting much from the young hurler on what seemed like a regular old rookie league game. 24 consecutive outs later fans were on their feet, as Butler was in total control. With a perfect game on the line the young hurler struck out Kylan Reid, induced a popup by Phillip Cummings, and with flashbulbs going off all over the park blew a 2-2 fastball by Maynard Subia to complete only the third Perfect Game in rookie league history.
5. The draft is finally over, and teams are lamenting or celebrating their misses or hits on what was once again a very exciting draft. Some picks that have entered the league with the highest potential according to OSA are: Val Schmit (Carolin Tobs, ranked #16), Rob Dietling (New York, ranked #63), Devin Geertz (SDR, ranked #82), Kemper Small (New Orleans, ranked #84. On the pitching side: Syracuse's #1 overall pick, Max Svick showed up highest on the list with a current rank of #22 prospect in the entire BLB! Other notable pitchers are Greg Suplee (Seattle), Chad Flanigan (Phoenix), Jake Fullerton (Wilmington), and Damon Potts (New Orleans) rounding out the players listed in the Top 100.
