Carolina and California each went 5-1 on the week as they were the big winners. The Tobs put together a winning month in July, are 3-1 in August, and are now only five games back in the Import wildcard race. Meanwhile the Kodiaks are also 3-1 in August, but they had a dreadful July by going 11-18. Still they find themselves only a game back in the Import wildcard race as well. Looks like it will be a fun September in the IL. On the other side of life New York went 0-6, while Toronto and Indy went 1-5. With everyone playing six due to interleague here were the team leaders: Carolina scored 39 runs (NY 13), Baltimore hit 11 HR (NY/Mai 3), Carolina swiped 19 bases (LAD/Ind 1), Montreal hit .317 (Den .208), SDR allowed only 6 runs (Den 44), Philly had opponents hit .195 (Den .345), and Pitt struck out 63 opposing batters (Dal 4).

Performance of the Week
P Jaden McAlpine - On August 29th the 24 year old former 4th round pick tossed a 3-hit shutout against Windy City during a 6-0 Red Jackets win. He also added 11 K's and no walks just for good measure. On the season he's now 13-8 with a 3.41 ERA and 117 ERA+. He's a fan favorite for Batavia, coaches love his work ethic, and if he ran for mayor he'd probably win.
Prospect of the Week
3B Beau Pruett - The second overall pick of last seasons draft played his first full season in A ball for the Distillers. Over 118 games he hit .277/.354/.607 with 38 HR, 95 RBI and 13 SB. He just took home the batter of the month award and was named the MVP of the Bush League All-Star game earlier in the season. Looks like the future is bright for this 21 year old.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. We're on to September and roster expansion. Teams are now allowed 28 as organizations around the league use their own strategies for bringing up help. As far as the playoff races go it's starting to narrow down just a tad. In the Domestic we have Wilmington 2.5 games and Maine 6.5 games out of the wildcard. Both of them though play tough schedules and it it will be a hard road to climb. In the Import as we mentioned the Kodiaks are a game back, and the Tobs are five back. In between them is Seattle though, who sits at only 2.5 back. It's still anyone's race.
2. The 'old' guys put on a show last month as 32 year old Dominique Graham (Tor) took home the DL Batter of the Month, and 35 year old Alan Allen (NO) took home the DL Pitcher of the Month. Between those two they have 10 All-Star appearances and a championship ring. Throw in 'rookie' Ishmael Frugoni of Pittsburgh, who is 28 and won the DL Rookie of the Month, and it was old timers month at the park.
3. The Bats are once again on top of the Power Rankings, have the second best record in the league, and are headed to the playoffs. Since 2039 Washington has been to the Brewmasters five times, including the run of four straight from '44 to '47. They lead the league with the most .500+ seasons (68) and most .600+ seasons (28). Also every one of their minor leagues finished at .500 or better. Long story short, it's a good time to be a Bat.
4. This past week KJ Avery of the Tobs stole 10 bases in 10 attempts. On the season he now has 59 SB and is on pace to finish with 69. That's some nice base running. Do you know how many stolen bases the Los Angeles Dinos have as a team...41. To be fair though the Dinos do have 73 wins and are the defending champs. So different strokes for different folks.
5. What's on tap? Denver gets the murderers row this week as they travel first to Los Angeles, then clear across the country to Washington. The Bulls have lost four in a row and lead the Dinos by only a half game in the Bock. They have put together winning records in June, July, and August but so far are winless in September. The other fun match-up is Pawtucket at New Orleans. The Voodoo and Exports are tied for the lead in the Lager, with the Canadians only three games back. Pawtucket meanwhile is just on cruise control with a 16.5 game lead in the Ale.
