Denver is en fuego as they go 6-1 with a sweep of LAD and taking three of four from Washington. The Bulls are now 56-51 and only three games behind Phoenix for the Bock lead. Other good weeks were New Orleans who went 5-1, and Philly and Montreal who went 5-2. New Orleans now leads the Lager, Philly is showing signs of life in the Stout, and Montreal is tied with Toronto a half game back from the Voodoo. On the other side of life Indy went 1-6 as they battle Santo Domingo for the first overall pick in next years draft.

Performance of the Week
LF Roman Toguchi - The Freedom selected him with their 1st round pick back in 2040 and he played his first full BLB season last year, where he hit .260/.376/.540 with 21 HR and 59 RBI. This season he's hitting .228/.315/.455 with 19 HR at the DH position but club officials are hoping for a little more. On July 28th he gave them some when he turned in the 4th best hitting performance of the season against Carolina. In five plate appearances he had 3 hits, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB and scored four times in a 9-4 Freedom victory.
Prospect of the Week
P Reilan DeMoss - New York officials have kept DeMoss on the Injured List after he needed surgery in April to remove bone chips from his elbow. Unfortunately they didn't monitor his whereabouts and his first action was back in the All-Star Futures Game two weeks ago. He came in for relief, pitched one inning, and struck out all three batters. He's the 24th overall prospect in the league and its time to throw him back into the mix...with a strict pitch count that is. Drafted 13th overall in 2047 his upside is huge, but only if he can stay healthy.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Pawtucket and Washington continue to be the cream of the crop in the BLB with the best records in their respective leagues. Did we also mention the Patriots R/D is +198 while the Bats sit at +125. Who else is over +100? No one. Who else is over +50? Just one team...Toronto at +57. We actually have two teams in the league with winning records, Wilmington and Batavia, who sit at -8 and -3 respectively. From looking at the playoff races and overall stats it appears the BLB is a very even league.
2. Chadd Chua is now on pace to steal 91 bases, which would be one short of Richie 'Powder' van Luik's record of 92 set in 2039. Last week he didn't swipe a single base, and he had 11 total in June, and 11 so far in July, after recording 22 in May. It doesn't help that he hit a combined .256 in June/July after hitting .350 in May. Hopefully his bat gets hot again so he can give 'Powder' a run for his money.
3. Montreal's Jesse Baker went 5-6 with 1 HR, 2 RBI, and 5 runs scored this past week in an 11-0 drubbing of the Snappers. For those that don't remember Baker was selected 16th overall by Montreal in last years draft. He is the only player from that 2048 class to play in the BLB to date. So far in 28 games he's hitting .330 with 3 HR, 11 RBI, 1 SB and a 123 OPS+. Not too shabby for a 21 year old who a year ago was playing first base for USC.
4. All the hype before the season was on J.D. 'Hurricane' Rice potentially breaking the all-time home run record of 612 held by Jamie O'Hearn. Sadly this year he only has three home runs, giving him a career total of 603. Even sadder is that he is sitting in AAA and only gets to pinch hit every now and then. All eyes now seem to be focusing on Robert 'Stretch' Jessee who's lighting it up for the Whalers. At 35 years old he has a career total of 569 home runs and is on pace to hit 36 this year and reach 581 by seasons end. That would only leave him 31 HR short of tying the record, which is more than doable for a guy who averages 40 a season and hit 47 last year.
5. What's on tap? We get a 1v1 this week as Washington travels to play New Orleans. Last season the Voodoo swept the Bats 3-0, but both teams remember 2045 when they met in the Brewmasters. New Orleans took the first two games, Washington took the next two, then it went New Orleans, Washington, and finally New Orleans in game seven to give them the trophy. Who was the MVP of that series? None other than Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger, the Bats starting second basemen.
