  • The 2049 Daily Keg - Week 2

    04/19/2049

    Wake the presses...the 2049 season has already started and the DK was nowhere to be seen. After last years Brewmasters Cup by the Los Angeles Dinos, the franchises first since 2008, it was just a constant off-season of parties and awards. Have no fear though, we're back, and better than ever.

    Okay enough with the 2048 talk, on to 2049! This weeks winners belong to Toronto, Montreal, and Denver. All three of those storied franchises went 5-1, with Montreal now having the best record in the league at 10-3. On the flip side Maine went 1-5, while a plethora of teams went 2-4. It seems the Guides are rudderless so far in the season. Will a blast from the past ride in on a white stallion to save them, or will the 2048 DLCS winners eventually sink? Only time will tell.

    Power Rankings

    1) Montreal Exports (146.5, ++)
    2) New Orleans Voodoo (128.6, -)
    3) Washington Bats (115.8, ++)
    4) Pawtucket Patriots (114.8, ++)
    5) Baltimore Bulldogs (110.8, -)
    6) Dallas Drillers (107.8, --)
    7) Denver Bulls (104.9, ++)
    8) Wilmington Clowns (104.0, ++)
    9) Hartford Whalers (98.9, +)
    10) Los Angeles Dinos (98.9, -)
    11) Seattle Pilots (96.9, --)
    12) Phoenix Roadrunners (95.9, --)
    13) California Kodiaks (89.0, --)
    14) Syracuse Snappers (84.1, ++)
    15) Toronto Canadians (84.1, ++)
    16) Carolina Tobs (81.1, -)
    17) Windy City Blues (81.1, --)
    18) Santo Domingo Rum Runners (67.2, +)

    24) Pittsburgh Millers (52.4, o)

    Performance of the Week

    P Dwan Tamarovsky - Want to know why the Dinos can repeat, because of this man. Dwan 'Chops' Tamarovsky has the tools to be one of the best pitchers in the league for a long time. The 22 year old shut down the Racers on April 18th with a thee hit, one run, 13 K performance during the Dinos 5-1 victory. On the season he's now 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA and 113 ERA+.

    Prospect of the Week

    P Jannero Peter - The second overall prospect in the league is a 100+ mph hard throwing former seventh...yes 7th...round pick by the Bulldogs. At 21 years old he's in AA right now where he's 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA, 136 ERA+, 15 K's, and only three walks in 15 innings pitched. Pick 158 looks to be quite a steal.

    Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Derek Bell is making $39.1 million this season, the highest in the league, while playing for Toronto. The Canadians are paying $9.8m of that, Dallas is paying $9.8m of that, and Phoenix is paying $19.6m of that. The Roadrunners actually owe Bell over $58,000,000 in the next three seasons. He last played for Phoenix in 2046. The 34 year old has currently started three games this season, and is 0-1 with an 8.16 ERA. It appears as if the 3x Pale Ale winners best days are behind him.

    2. The 'Brutal Bock' (trademark pending) is 7-6, 7-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-6, and 6-7. We have changed our trademark application to the 'Mediocre Bock'. Considering last years Brewmasters winning team came from the Bock though we'll just say what doesn't kill them only makes them tougher.

    3. We think Dallas could easily win over 100 games this season. Their 'Big 3' of Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger, Collin 'Reach' Makuch, Stuart 'They Call me Stuart' Beale are splashed all over peoples top players list across the league. Last season they were one win away from going to the Brewmasters, and they should be right there once again.

    4. Remember a few years ago when hitters couldn't hit, well now pitchers can't pitch. The DL posts an impressive .290 combined average after the first two weeks, while the IL comes in at .259. The highest league average ever was .279 by the Domestic back in 2029. Obviously water will find its level over time but for now it's something to keep an eye on.

    5. What's on tap? How about Seattle at Los Angles, Denver at Phoenix, and Wilmington at Hartford. Streak wise Roadrunners Neel 'Tracer' Benarrivo has hit safely in 20 straight games, while Toronto's Nicholas Rae has won seven straight games.
