All hail Canada as the Toronto Canadians move into first in the PR with a 4-2 week. They are now tied with Montreal for the Lager lead, as well as the best record in the BLB. The top team of the week though belonged to Maine who went 6-1, while California went 5-1, and New Orleans went 5-2. The Voodoo sit at one game under .500 in a very competitive Lager, then decided to trade the best player in the league, but we'll get to that later. On the other side of life Hartford went 1-6 while a plethora of teams went 2-4.

Performance of the Week
1B Shannon McCaskill - On June 25th against Seattle he turned in the ninth best hitting performance of the season. In five at bats he tallied up four hits, one home run, three RBI, and four runs scored in a 11-3 victory. On the season the 28 year old former 3rd round pick is hitting .266/.314/.396 with 4 HR's and 23 RBI.
Prospect of the Week
3B Colson Boyd - Picked in the 4th round by New York in 2040 he has been an All-Star in both A and AA, but at 25 his time is running short. Still in AA he had a big game on June 28th though against the Aubrun Venom. In the 13-3 win he had two HR's, 8 RBI, and scored three times. Anytime you can plate eight it's worth noting. He's now hitting .324/.391/.538 and it might be time to see if he can move up to AAA. His main problem is he doesn't have a true position, and scouts don't think he can be a full-time DH down the road.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. There has been a flurry of big trades as of late, with some household names changing address. The latest trade saw, Dallas, yes the Dallas that had a fire sale not that long ago, go all in once again to attain the services of Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger. Using all of the assets from trading away Derek Bell and Reid Cole, the Drillers GM, Brad 'Always All In' Z just could not resist the opportunity to bring home the games greatest offensive force. Although he's coming off of injury, Hullinger boasts a career .296 AVG, with 269 HR, 360 SB, and two 40/40 seasons thrown in for fun.
2. The Toronto Canadians are ahead of schedule. A bevy of young players and one legend have them riding high atop the league in the Lager. Robert 'Stretch' Jesse has seen a resurgence (23 HR and 65 RBI) surrounded by a solid young core that includes budding superstar Dane Jennings, who is posting a solid .390 average and plus defense. Not far behind is Abel Valley and his .364 average. Couple this with the addition of Derek Bell a few weeks ago and a young and growing crop of pitchers, and this could be the Canadians year.
3.We saw the biggest suspension in recent memory this past week as the office of the commish suspended Seattle pitcher Khadeen Nakamura for an unheard of nine games. On June 29th against Batavia he came into the game in the sixth inning and got out of it without allowing a run. In the 7th he got two quick fly outs before Timmy Ungureanu took him deep to make it 9-3 Batavia. Zeke Lebron came up and after fouling off the first pitch, Nakamura threw a 93 mph fastball and beaned him in the back. The benches cleared and fisticuffs were aplenty before order was restored. Lebron ended up getting four games, and the next batter Shannon McCaskill then crushed a two-run shot to make it 11-3.
4. JD 'Hurricane' Rice is languishing away in last place Hartford but he has hit 18 HRs this year, giving him a career total of 591. He's on pace to hit 38 HR's, which would give him a career total of 611. The all-time record is held by Jamie O'Hearn...which is 612. If Rice gets hot the fans around the league could be in for quite a treat come late in the season.
5. What's on tap? How about Pawtucket at Dallas. The Drillers swept their first season series 3-0 and with the addition of 'Mirror' we're really looking forward to this one. The Patriots have allowed the second fewest runs in the DL, while scoring the 5th most. They have rebounded in June by going 16-10 so far after a 13-15 May. Dallas meanwhile is at or near the top in almost every pitching category, while at the bottom in every hitting category. Even with the addition of Hullinger rumors are that they are still looking for another top offensive weapon. In the Import we're liking the Windy City at New York four-game series. New York took the first four-game series 3-1, and would love to do it again. They are currently first in the Stout, but believe it or not only have a 4.5 game lead. Not over second place mind you, but over last place Batavia and Carolina. It's the closest division by far and could go down to the wire.
