  • The 2047 Daily Keg - Week 21

    09/02/2047

In the all-Dinos addition of the Daily Key...ok just kidding but we are going to talk a lot on that southern California team. They finished out the month by going 6-0 with sweeps of California and Philadelphia. They have also now won 10 in a row and have closed the once insurmountable gap in the Bock to five games. Other great weeks were had by Montreal and Denver who each went 6-1 as they are now both above 80% in the playoff odd charts. Finally Syracuse went 5-1, while Pittsburgh and Washington went 5-2. On the other side of life Windy City, Indy, and California all went 1-6.

    Performance of the Week

C Tyler Landry - Nobody broke into the Top Performances of the season this past week, but Landry had a nice game against Washington on August 31st. The 24 year old rookie, who was a 3rd round pick in 2040 by Phoenix, racked up three of the Roadrunners seven hits on the day, and two of them were solo shots. In the end Phoenix won 2-0 thanks to Landry, and he's now hitting .337/.411/.662 in 27 games.

    Prospect of the Week

P Cayden Wittmeyer - Checking in on 2046's 1.1 and Wittmeyer is now 8-8 with a 2.35 ERA and 4.1 WAR in 20 AA ball starts this season. He's now the 3rd overall prospect in the league and scouts are comparing him already to Christian Vines. That's pretty high standards to say the least, but if he stays healthy and develops he could be a top three pitcher in the BLB in just a few more seasons.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. With a week to go in the minors, only the AAA playoffs are yet to be decided. In the Futures Federation there are still six teams with a shot at the final three wildcard spots, as only the New York Comets have locked a spot up. Meanwhile in the Blue Chip Coalition things are every bit as tight. All four wild card spots are up for grabs and it's still anyone's game as only the Annapolis Admirals with a magic number of two appear to be a lock. It should be a very exciting final week for AAA fans around the BLB.

    2. The Dinos and the Snappers won August as they both went 16-7. LAD started out 6-7 but as we mentioned before they reeled off ten straight, and are only five back from California. Syracuse meanwhile is 4.5 back from Pawtucket but they don't meet again during the regular season. Other nice months were those just mentioned Kodiaks and Patriots who each went 15-8, while Washington one upped them by going 15-7. On the flip side Carolina went 6-17 while Baltimore went 7-16.

    3. A month left and the race to pick 1.2 appears to be on. Thanks to two incredibly long losing streaks this season, Hartford and their 37-96 record appear to have the 1st overall pick locked up. Fighting for the right to draft the next Adam Watson or Pat Bamford are a bevy of teams in various stages of rebuilding. If the season ended today the top of the draft would be Hartford (37-96), Carolina (52-81), Maine (53-81), Windy City (54-79), and three other teams, Indianapolis, Santo Domingo, and Philadelphia all battling with 57 wins. Not sure how the draft will shake out, but the race to get there should be lots of fun.

    4. Batavia still holds the Top System lead with 238 points, but guess who's second...yes those Los Angeles Dinos. With 184 points they have sneaked past Maine who sits at 181. LAD boasts the #1 prospect in the league in pitcher Dwan Tamarovsky. After signing with Philly out of Lithuania he was traded to Los Angeles in the Tiernan 'Garbage' Parker deal. Parker was later traded to Syracuse for a slew of prospects and picks, so we're not sure how the trades have worked out yet. LAD also has the 7th overall prospect in 3B Neall Rabah, and the 16th overall in SS Tony Wysong. Rabah looks like he could be in the BLB in a season or two, while Wysong is hitting .178 in the Rookie League and won't be seeing Jurassic Park anytime soon.

    5. What's on tap? How about interleague...the last match-up between the IL and the DL before the Brewmasters Cup. Some series we're excited for: LAD at New Orleans, Denver at Montreal, and Washington at Dallas. Can LAD keep the win streak alive, is Denver for real, and how does Dallas stack up against the defending champs? Streak wise Christian Vines has now won nine straight starts, Darren Clark (PIT) has a 17 game hitting streak, and Nicholas Rae (SDR) has converted 23 straight save opportunities.
