Well one week back and California returns to the top of the mountain...with a 2-4 week? I guess because Dallas went 2-5 and plummeted like the 2025 stock market crash the Kodiaks get to be #1 again. The real winner of the week though was Pawtucket who went 6-1 as they beat up on the Drillers and the Millers. Other good weeks were Phoenix, LAD, Syracuse, and Toronto who all went 5-1. Throw in Seattle and Santo Domingo who each went 5-2 and there was a lot of rejoicing. Where there wasn't rejoicing...Baltimore. The poor Bulldogs went 0-7 and fell all the way into the final wildcard spot in the Import.

Performance of the Week
3B Coleman Franklin - Signed this off-season the 35 year old has been fighting minor injuries all season, but he's healthy again and last week recorded the 11th best hitting performance of the season. On August 23rd against Batavia he had three hits, two home runs, drove in five, and scored three times in a 12-2 victory. On the season he's hitting .217/.316/.430 with 14 HR's, 38 RBI's, and a 1.7 WAR.
Prospect of the Week
P Jeff Musatov - Drafted by Baltimore in the second round of the 2045 draft he's moved from 89th to 62nd on the top prospect list. The 22 year old is still in A ball where he's 5-11 with a 3.71 ERA and 101 ERA+, but he has a lot of potential. Coaches are working with him to develop his changeup, and if he gets that under control they believe he could be a middle of the rotation starter down the road.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Congrats to Jayson Buenaventura who hit his 300th career home run this week. The former IAFA was signed by the Miami Sharks back in 2034 and has been in the BLB since 2036. He was selected to the 2046 All-Star team and has a career line of .262/.341/.487 with 300 HR's, 791 RBI's, and a 24.0 WAR. The big news in the home run category though is that there are currently 11 players in BLB history with 500 or more home runs. Only one of them is active, Baltimore's JD 'Hurricane' Rice, who has 567. Rory Elia and Robert Jessee though are soon to join. Elia is sitting at 496, 13th all-time, while Jessee is at 492, 16th all-time.
2. Mr. Irrelevant is the accepted name for most guys are unfortunately drafted last in any given draft. Usually nothing is expected but a dance nickname. The is not the case for the unheralded 10th round, and last, pick in 2039 draft. Sean Drury is taking the BLB by storm in his rookie season. After an unspectacular call up at the end of last season, that saw Drury muddle through three starts with a 5.74 ERA, he is now anchoring the Bats the last two months. This year however, the 240th overall pick has been unbeatable...in all nine starts! That's right... Nine starts and a perfect 9-0 record. Along with his sterling record he's only thrown 9 BBs and struck out 45 batters.
3. Flush with offense the last few years and struggling in the pitching department, Montreal went looking for a trade partner and found Los Angeles. The Dinos, flush with pitching and defense and looking for a difference maker on offense agreed, and a trade was born. And what a boon it has been for the Dinos. Shifted from second to third to start the season, Preston Capps has simply been the best player in the IL to this point in the season. A Stout Slugger seems all but certain for the former Export, as he currently leads the IL in WAR, is 3rd in average, 1st in runs, 4th in hits, and anchors the game's best defense.
4. And just like that, Seattle is back in the Wildcard race. On July 29th, Seattle was mired near the bottom of the IL standings, and in the midst of a fire sale that saw them trade their best pitcher, Norm Aouita, to Phoenix for three 1sts and a bevy of prospects. Now, they are winners of nine of their last 12 games and within 1.5 game of the final Wildcard spot. Seattle fans should be very excited about a team that not only might make the playoffs, but also have a pile of picks in the next two drafts.
5. What's on tap? A lot of series this week that play heavily into the Wildcard race. Batavia at Baltimore is up first in the week along with Pittsburgh at Syracuse and Montreal at New Orleans. The Red Jackets are the only team mentioned that isn't in a Wildcard spot, but they are only 1.5 back in a very crowded IL race. Meanwhile Pittsburgh and Montreal and battling with Wilmington in the DL race where only two of them can go. Streak wise Syracuse has won five in a row, Baltimore has lost seven in a row while Indy's LaTrivis Chojnacki has the longest hitting streak in the BLB at 14 games.
