Performance of the Week
P Nathan McKelvey – In a week that featured 144 home runs and 631 runs scored, McKelvey dominated Indy with the #8 pitching performance of the season. The game started with four perfect innings until Xavier Medellin and Asa Wyman finally tallied singles in the fifth. The Voodoo hurler quickly settled down and finished his dominating 103 pitch masterpiece by allowing only 4 singles, no walks, and striking out 8 in a complete game shutout.
Injury of the Week
SP Dave Larson – In what has been an extremely tough year for the Whalers, they were dealt another blow as their staff ace felt a small tear in his right shoulder while throwing a pitch in a game against Indianapolis this week. A torn rotator cuff will leave him out for 11 months. Unfortunately for Larson, and the Whalers, this is his second major arm injury of the year. Might this be in the beginning of the end for the 2033 second round pick?
Prospect of the Week
SP Seth Krum – The 18th overall pick in the 2045 draft highlighted his continued strong development with a complete game 3-1 over Orlando in A action this week. After starting the year out in RL and dominating to the tune of a 2.77 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 14 starts, he quickly transitioned to A ball, where he’s looked even better. In 6 A ball starts, Krum is currently 3-1 with a 2.32 ERA and 28 strikeouts!
Five Things We Think We Think
1. OOTP loves to hit teams that make big trades hard, and not in a good way. This week was no exception as Phoenix was the victim this week. In a big trade with Seattle that saw Norm Aouita come over from Seattle for three 1sts and a couple of prospects, the Roadrunners responded by going a lackluster 1-5. To Aouita’s credit he had a solid outing against California, and was fantastic in 8.0 solid innings against Baltimore only to see CL Corey Galindo come in and blow a three run lead.
2. We talked about them last week, but it’s hard not to mention them again. Stuart Beale and Colby Hullinger both officially joined the 30/40 club this week and we are still barely into the first week of July. This will be a fabulous race to watch as both players are heading for the playoffs and potential BLB immortality as the league’s first ever 50/50 player!
3. One of the game’s brightest young stars and most hyped prospects in years finally made his BLB debut this week. Washington’s James Goebel was everything that Bats’ fans could hope for and more. He doubled in his first major league at-bat with a line drive into right center field. He finished the game with three hits, a walk, and two runs. It looks like the 2042 IFA will be worth every bit of his $6.26M posting fee.
4. The Trading Deadline is only 9 days away. Syracuse and Phoenix have already made big splashes and SDR and Seattle have apparently thrown in the towel on 2047. Will any other big names be on the move as well. Twitter has been very quiet lately, but things happen quickly in the BLB and another big trade as teams fight for the playoffs would certainly not surprise the writers of the DK.
5. The DK would like to give a shoutout to CL Satchel Ramirez this week on becoming just the 50th player in BLB history to reach 300 career saves. Originally signed for $2M, out of Chile, by the Miami (now Dallas) Sharks, Ramirez had two fairly ordinary seasons with Dallas. A big trade brought him to California where he dominated on a 2043 Brewmaster Championship run, and has been a mainstay as the team’s closer.
